1.01 - Pilot : Trivia & Notes

Trivia
The Premiere on October 9, 2002 ran 10 minutes longer with extra footage. Subsequent repeat airings of this episode were cut down to fit the normal time slot. The villain in this episode is New Gotham's version of the comic universe's Scarecrow, who played on people's fears in order to kill them. 82591 is the activation code used on the keypad by the Huntress to activate the secret elevator in the Clocktower.

Bloopers
Alfred gives Dinah a new pair of clothes and directs her to shower, then heads over to speak with Barbara about the new girl. After their conversation, Dinah appears again, freshly showered and changed -- and if you time it, she did it all in under three minutes. Is this another metahuman power of hers? There is a shot of 14-year-old Helena stabbing herself with the knife - but the interspliced footage is a black-and-white shot of the adult Helena in Ketterly's living room.

Continuity
No applicable continuity for this episode; this was the first-run episode of the series.

Relationships
We establish that there is some convoluted genealogy among the Birds. Helena Kyle is the daughter of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle, better known as Batman and Catwoman. Her father left seven years ago, after the death of her mother, and Helena has never known or liked him. Barbara Gordon is Helena's best friend and an older-sister type. They have their share of fights but deep down they rely on one another and are glad to have each other around. Barbara displays an attraction to the handsome new guidance counselor, Wade Brixton, who asks her out on a date. Dinah Lance is new to Gotham and wants to become a part of the tower group. Helena is wary of this girl intruding upon their lives, while Barbara likens Dinah to a young Helena who turned to Barbara for help when she had no one else to turn to after her mom's death. Jesse Reese is one of the honest police officers left on the force. He has a definite attraction to Helena when he first meets her at a crime scene, but is understandably mistrusting of her unwillingness to share any personal information and her 'quick-comeback-and-flight' habits. It seems Helena has an attraction towards him, as she spills the beans on the fact that she's helping out the police despite Barbara's wish for her not to say anything.
