Rachel : Best Choice for Dinah?

I was torn between placing this in the book forum or in here, but my hope was that people who had seen Rachel in other works would discuss their opinions here. I, for one, haven't seen Rachel in anything before this, so I can't give too solid a feeling on her acting ability.

There has been some controversy among fans of the book who are disappointed that continuity has been changed by the turning of Dinah Lance into a teenager and not her kick-ass Black Canary character from the book.
As I said, I haven't seen Rachel in other things, so she's new to me, but from clips I've seen (and I'll be seeing the unaired pilot soon, so I can give a further opinion), I think I'm going to like the character and actress. So what do you guys think -- is Rachel a good choice for the character, or would you rather see an older actress portraying her? Do you like the changes they've made to Dinah, or do you want her comic book counterpart for the show?

I've never seen Rachel in anything yet, so I can't judge. The only thing I know (LOL) is that she's from Toronto, like me, and I think she's friends with Hayden Christensen's sister, who goes to my school (actually, Hayden used to go to my school too). That's pretty much the only thing I know about her. LOL =)

I haven't seen the pilot episode yet, although I understand quite a few people have, and I'm not much of a comic book reader, so I'll save my reservations about Dinah's character til I know more. But I've heard that Rachel's very talented and hopefully more and more people will accept her as Dinah after the show airs. :)

I wasn't too convinced about her from the trailers, but she seemed ok in the pilot. There's certainly a lot of scope and fun for her character to have.....whether she does or not is another question. Have to see a few more episodes before I can decide whether she's "right" for the role :)

Of course, I'm still not 100% certain she's the BC.....she's definitely not right for that role yet!

I haven't seen Rachel in anything either, so it wouldn't be fair for me to judge right now. Until I see the premiere I'm just gonna keep my mouth shut.:)

I'll be patiently waiting to see what kind of a job she does in the Pilot cause i've not seen her in anything before this either.

I think it's funny to discuss things like that before we've even seen the first real episode. (not that i'm saying it was a bad idea to have this thread. i like the discussion!)

It's the same as every other series. You never know what an actress is going to do with the role, it's development, etc... I'm going to just sit back and enjoy it.

Before I watched the unaired pilot I told myself one thing, Dinah isn't Black Canary. She's a teenage girl named Dinah. I honestly LOVE the kid. In the trailers I thought she was too much like Dawn from Buffy, but I liked her on screen. I think there will be some good tension between herself and Huntress. She the "kid" character, but I don't think she'll just be getting in to trouble and needing help. At least I hope not. For now, I like her.

Like most people, I haven't seen her in anything. So I don't really have an opinion. I might come back and post in this thread after I've seen the first episode. (Btw, anyone know when it comes out in Australia?)
