View Full Version : Helena & Reese's supposed "sexual tension"

I know some people out there have already seen the pilot, and what I'm interested in finding out from you lucky people is if there really is a lot of chemistry between Ashley Scott and Shemar Moore on-screen. Sometimes forced and contrived "sexual tension" between two characters on a show can really ruin the show (I'll refrain from mentioning which shows I have in mind, but I'm sure you've all seen shows like that). If the chemistry between the two actors is really good, then I'm sure it'll work. But if the chemistry's not there and the writers/producers really push for sexual tension between the two characters, the show may suffer.
Just my opinion. :D

Well she certainly seemed to be having some fun with him. He just seemed in a "being a detective" mode so far. She was definitely playing around tho! ;) And she did later remark to Oracle that there was something romantic about being handcuffed to an antique statue! :D

Bel is right. There were no tensions per say. The dectective is just that for now. I think that we will get to know more about his character in the coming up episodes.
And I think the being handcuffed to the statue remark was just because she loves to get out some wisecracks here and there ;)
Probably. She is a fairly playful person :)

well if the chemistry is there play with it but if it's not......put it in a closet and throw away the key..........my $.02

I think that this could be interesting actually, I loved watching that scene and there certainly seems to be the potential for something to happen between them. Whether or not the writers follow that through though we have yet to see!

On a lot of websites and interviews, I've heard so much about the producers pushing for Helena/Reese tension, so I just had to know, LOL. :D
Thanks for all the perspectives, from those of you who've seen the pilot and those who haven't (like me) ... it's going to be very interesting, that's for sure!

I've seen the unaired pilot and I don't really think there's that much sexual tension to be seen in it between Helena and Reese. The one scene between them is relatively short and pretty plot related, and basically consists of Helena vamping it up, sassing Reese, back talking him, and smiling as she makes witty comments - which is how Helena pretty much acts around everyone she interacts with in the episode. Reese pretty much just looks at her suspiciously.
Maybe once we get to know Reese a bit better and we see them in more scenes together, the 'sexual tension' that the producers keep talking about will show up ... maybe not. I just hope that it won't be one of those cases where if it doesn't come naturally they just force it and tell the audience to like it.

Oh I couldn't agree with you more there, I think that sexual tension is being forced a lot more than it used to be in shows, and in most cases just isn't working as well as it should. There are much more subtle ways of weaving it in but many are just making it too obvious and not planting enough seeds, just jumping in with it as a huge storyline.
We will know if its going to work after a few episodes I would think, I really hope they don't force it though as I don't want that thrust into the forefront of the show and potentially ruining it. The show is described as part comedy though so I am sure we can expect some comedic interaction between Reese and Helena :)
Maybe the casting directors have changed their ways. I know that it used to be common practice to have people read off of the already-cast lead, or had people audition together, to see how well they played a scene together. You could never cast a husband and wife separately, when people have certain relationships you need to make sure they'll play together well. People who don't have any chemistry = blah storyline. And then you end up seeing that the one actor has more chemistry with another actor on the set and things just look strange.

I completely agree with what you all said here. I personally would rather see Helena and Reese work together occasionally, or have him try to learn about who she is, instead of having them form romantic attachments. It's not that I don't like romance on TV shows, but I would absolutely HATE it if romance became the prime focus of this particular show.

I could name a certain other show *cough*Charmed*cough* that has got REALLY tired on the love front. I think that the Cole/Phoebe storylines have been dominating the show way too much the past 2 years and the relationship has become more and more forced. If this happens on BOP then it will surely ruin the show :(

I don't watch Charmed, but I've heard about this from other people. I agree with you though. Some shows are based on a romance, and that's fine. But if the original premise of a show has nothing to do with romance, and the producers/writers push too much for a romance, the show's going to lose direction and as a result, will suffer. What you mentioned on Charmed also happened on Dark Angel, and I personally think the show's ratings went down because of it, and thus, the show was cancelled.
My hope is that it doesn't happen to Birds of Prey. I love the premise about Barbara/Oracle, Helena/Huntress and Dinah working together, with Detective Reese sort of interacting with them occasionally. I'd like it to stay that way. :D

I agree with all of you who think the show should stay on topic and not wonder off into love. I think a little bit of sexual tension is good but at the same time that is not what the show is about. Now, if there is as much sexual tension between Helena & Reese and they don't pursue that after 7 years like Mulder/Scully, I just might have to kill the staff! LOL
