Okay, if Selena never told Bruce he had a daughter, and never told Helena who her father was, how did they find out???

Do we know for sure Helena wasn't told by her mother. Certainly Barbara knew who she was... maybe she told her. I know that a scene in the unaired pilot right at the beginning revealed that Barbara knew about Helena before she and Selena were shot/killed. Who know's the real answer? :)

I think Barabara was the one who told bats and helena (or she told alfred who told one or the other for her, who knows).

I think Alfred said Helena didn't know in his narration and Helena said she didn't know who her father was at the time of her mother's death in one of her sessions. I assume Barbara was the one who finally informed everyone after all the "bad things" happened.

It would seem the first thing Bruce did post-tragedy wasn't leave gotham. He didn't know he had a kid, but Helena can obviously access her "rightful inherritance" any time she feels like it. In fact, I believe it was implied that it's how Babs gets the funds for the Birds equipment. Which means Bruce had to make sure that it was possible before departing.

I was rewatching the pilot and while she's having her anger managment session with Dr. Quinnzel, she says that Barabara took her in and a few moths later she found out that Bruce Wayne was her father.

Ok, here's a thought, Helena found out that Bruce Wayne is her father...BUT does she know that Bruce Wayne is Batman? I don't remember anyone saying anything about that? I guess we can assume she does, but maybe she doesn't?

I think Helena knows Bruce is Batman. She kind of hinted at it in her session, his dangerous hobby.

Okay, why does Barbara know? I don't read the comics, so I don't really have any background going into the show. Were Selena and Barbara friends? Would she trust Barbara with that kind of secret, or did Barb just guess the truth??? Did Barbara know Selena was Catwoman? Guess I should start reading the comics. I hate looking for back issues.

I know the feeling! I wish they would print out an Essential-type thing: B/w's of the orginal comics compiled together in sets of 15-20 for real cheap. It'd make thing simpler...

from what i can gather from the original pilot and the usual sources of comics and the like, babs was batgirl, and now shes oracle right. oracle knows or has access to pretty much any piece of info she wants, she has access to the bats files, so its not unreasonable to think that bats knew who catwoman is (in the unaired pilot it is pretty openly stated in a news broadcast that selena was catwoman and this was pretty widely known or at least suspected) helena was definately known to be selena's daughter.

as to why bats didn't know...um...maybe catwoman had been out of town for a few years or something... the fact that he set the trust up does seem to indicate that he knew after selenas death...

helena i imagine was told by oracle who her father was, probably as a way of calming her down or getting her to take up the crime fighter gig. she definatley knows his other life (as batman) the line "Agressive hobby" is pretty self explanatory.

the problem you'll find, is that actual comic continuity won't cover this stuff. this is all somewhere in the writers minds (or in a series bible somewhere deep in the bowels of WB...) and i imagine that the bulk of it will be covered as the series progresses.

From what I have gathered from the pilot (aired and unaired versions) --and though the comic characters are the basis for the show it is a world of its own -- Selina was known to have been the Catwoman by the public at large. She--in her Selina identity --was linked to "reclusive millionaire Bruce Wayne," according to the TV news report of her death in the original, unaired pilot. Upon hearing this Barbara reacts with concern about Helena who was with her when she was murdered so obviously knew about her. In the aired version, Helena told her psychiatrist Harley that she had known Barbara since she was a kid. So obviously Selina had confided in Barbara about her. It's not too big a leap to think Barbara could figure out who was the father of Catwoman's child--though I await to hear the explanation as to why Bruce couldn't.

However, now that I've started writing this I remember in the Alfred narration he said Helena was totally unaware of who her father was or her mother's past as Catwoman so maybe the idea that Catwoman and Selina Kyle as the same person known by the general public has been changed. Surely Helena would have heard some rumor at least if this were common knowledge.

I'm betting Barbara told all and that Selina also left behind a will or papers with an explanation. It seemed pretty obvious that in the months before he left Bruce must have made provisions for his daughter (Alfred's comment about the manor being her birthright and the trust that funds Oracle's operations) and she obviously knew about their other identities (her aversion to wearing a mask "like my parents"). I doubt that Barbara telling her about her father would work that well in getting her into the crime-fighting game. Perhaps a bit of avenging her mother--that's something I'd like to see answered too.

OK, back to the original question...did someone actually say in the show that Bruce did NOT know he had a kid?

Hopefully they will get into some more details for all of us as the season continues.
