I have a question for a story I'm writing, if anyone can answer it. I was reading someone else's story, and someone had commented that Commissioner Gordon had died in the comic books--the person had said he'd killed himself after what happened to Barbara. Is this true? Because, I wrote it in, and now I'm unsure if that was true to the story. (My story's started over on fanfiction.net, but I aim to post it here first from now on and try it out on you guys.) If you have any insight on this, I'd like to know. Thanks!

Barbara was crippled by the Joker in "The Killing Joke." If you haven't read it but plan to and don't want to know what happens, don't read further, there are comic spoilers.

In the comic, Barabara and Commissioner Gordon are in the same room when Barbara answers the door and is shot by the Joker. While still in a shock of what happened, two ot the Joker's henchmen beat up Gordon, knocking him unconcsious, and drag him to an abandoned amusement park that the Joker has recently purchased.

Joker wanted to drive Gordon crazy by stripping him nude, chaining him to a cart and dragging him through a fun house, filled with images of Barbara who was lying on the floor of their apartment, nude and bleeding. It was also suggested but never said that the Joker possibly raped Barbara as well.

He did not die, though. He did not go crazy, but came pretty close. As usual, Batman comes in the nick of time and saves the day.

Darn, darn, darn! I knew I shouldn't have killed him off without checking with anyone!

Well I'm assuming its a BoP story and not a Batman Mythos story, so you could possibly have him dead. I mean BoP is technically an Elseworlds story, and not fitting into the "true" Batman Mythos, and we never do know what happens to him in the shows, so who knows.

Oh, good, because I had some ideas that had to do with holidays, etc, and if Babs had family around, it wouldn't exactly work. Plus, I'd need to write him in to the recovery, etc. and it just added one too many directions for me to try to cover. I think I'll leave him dead. Being as how he never showed up in any episodes and all.

Thanks for your help!

Hey

I wouldn't worry too much about staying true exactly to the comics storylines. After all, we're mostly all here because of the TV show, and so if anything, I'd stay truer to that than the comics. And in the case of Commisioner Gordon, since we know nothing from the show, you're free to do what you like!

IMO anyway- thats the spin I'm going from for my story. BTW, I've been following your story on FFnet, and I really like it- keep it up!

Cool, thanks--I haven't really read the comics, and, honestly, there're so many spinoffs, I find it a bit confusing to figure out all the relationships. I'm glad you like the story--it's nice to be able to give something back, I've been enjoying everyone else's so much.

I've been meaning to talk to you about that story. I read it at fanfiction.net and thought it was excellent! You really should post it (or a link to it) here! Keep up the great work!

There are a lot of comics to go through, and I'm just kinda starting myself. I've only been collecting the TPBs slowly but surely since October. It takes a little weeding through to figure it all out but the recent ones with the exception of Frank Miller's Dark Knight series and some other stuff pretty much all fits into comic continuity.

The best way to figure out the confusion is to just check out online at a bunch of sites, even Amazon.com or wherever you'd want to buy books from online. The answers are out there.

Thanks, guys--I aim to post the story here as soon as I finish some papers for a class I'm taking. Should be up by about Tuesday, I reckon. MUZBNUTS, I might ask you for some advice when I get to the fight scenes--you do a bang-up job with those--no pun intended.
