Just wondering. Why is the place called New Gotham instead of Gotham city?

Read the Batman (graphic?) novel "No Man's Land".
It will tell the whole story. :)

MUZBNUTS and SevenSlave, don't forget about the two arcs before NML. So many in Gotham died in those two, they probibly would have had to condemn most of the city anyway.

I think that the writers try to separate the history of batman and birds of pray, two different ages.

How much is No Mans Land? Is it at comic book stores or could I get it from BarnsnNoble?

NML's a good series, I think BN's got all five, I know Amazon.com's only got 3 and 4, as well as the novel adaptation, which is a lot easier to find.
As a side note, I always though New Gotham was fitting even before they explained the name change. I mean The New Gotham we've seen is nothing like any other Batman's representation of Gotham City, which is supposed to have this old Gothic architechture with a bunch of high-rises and older style cars, the traditional Gotham City has almost an air of timelessness to it, while on BOP it's obviously a very modern 2002/2003 styled city.

And if you're serious about he comics, don't forget "Cataclysm" which features the earthquake itself, and "Contagion" which came before that, but I warn you "Contagion" is all but impossible to find, even online, unless you're willing to buy from a scalper.

I prefer New Gotham over Old Gotham City I mean well like stoyboy said bout the timelessness it gets a bit old after awhile but New Gotham its like a totally different world, a new place for us to explore but heres a good question how come they still call it Gotham City in the comics?

They mentioned it in one of the spisdoes ... I beleive it was the pilot .. that New Gotham was built over Old Gatham after the Earthquake ... I think its when Dinah was looking for Huntress underground.

SB- remember about re-issue of tpb's coming up?
Meta-continuity. That would be like saying "New Metropolis" in Supes' books....

If you want to read the story - sans a few details - and save some money, the BOOK No Man's Land is out, by Greg Rucka.
It's good and there's a few scenes in there that are rather funny.
It's also told from Barbara/Oracle's point of view.

If you saw the Gotham City in the Batman Movies it looks exactly like New York City. It even has a statue of liberty.

I read the No Man's Land from the library, and then I bought it because it was so good. Oracle curses a lot. "Hindsight, it's a bitch ain't it?" ---line from Babs.

I remember that line...
I loved the scene when Dick and Tim arrive, and then when Batman lands next to them.
"Think he's gonna show?"
"He'll show."
"I already have."

It's NG because most of the city had to be rebuilt after NML
