I was wondering what you all thought about the latest Frank Miller Batman story. It seems like a lot of people have mixed feelings on it, so those who read it here, what'd you think?

I have mixed feelings about it...it's probably not very 'cool' to admit it but I kind of found it hard to follow, and I wasn't impressed by the artwork *hides*

But I guess overall I liked the storyline...

I HATED IT and I'm a Frank Miller fan from WAY BACK ... when he used to write and draw Daredevil. I think he just like John Bryne has become lasy with his artwork, they both draw with rapidographs rather than doing full pencils.

The story was ok, but the art put me off alot. I wish it would have been Alex Ross' to do!

The thing people should think about is that Frank wanted just to write a fun read, its not as serious as Dark Knight Returns, Frank called it a "Dope slap" I dont know what that means, but it cant be anything serious:D . As a Batman story its rather weak, but the humor in it is hilarious, and some of the dialogue is cool Miller Batman. The problem with its that it starts fairly serious, and then by the second and third book its just outrageous and cartoony. The artwork is rather ugly att times,(note how the art changes after the first issue). But Lynn Varleys coloring is really cool. I also like the way Miller wrote The Atom. He made him very cool, also Flash was pretty damn cool in the first issue. Overall a fun read, but very different from other Miller Batman stuff.

Yes, very different indeed.

I dunno, I kind of enjoyed it. It was a fun read. i knid of enjoy these elseworlds and see how people take Batman without worrying about the continuity.

I didn't mind the artwork. When I got it i had read the Batman/Nightwing: Bloodbourne one-shot a few months prior, and I really did not like Toby Cypress' artwork, so Miller's in comparison was good, lol.

But yeah the DK series is Frank Miller's brainchild and I don't think he'd let Alex Ross or anyone else touch it. Not to knock Ross' work, Kingdom Come was nothing short of amazing, but it's the way Miller works I guess.

Indeed, And I personally cant see Alex Ross paint all the crazyness that Miller created. In terms of Millers artwork i very much prefer the style he used in the 80s and especially the style in Dark Knight Returns.

Well the thing is Alex Ross would draw on top of the painting, he does the pencils then the inking as well. So it'd be his own craziness lol.

Actually, when you look at the later issues of DKR, the drawings are similar to some of the DK2 stuff, it's mainly the difference in Lynn Varley's coloring for each time period that makes them really different from reach other. Not saying the pencils are identical but similar at least.

Yes, but the style in DK2 is in places extremely cartoony, while DKR is just gritty and fairly realistic, the style used in DK2 has more similarities with Franks "Sin City" books then DKR. Lynn Varleys photoshop coloring is cool, I liked it, it was basicly the first time she used the computer for coloring and it shows, but still its good, and got better from every issue.
