First why is TheWB website calling her both Dr. Quinn and Dr. Quinzel?

Second, can someone please post more background info on Harlequin? All I can remember are some episodes from the Batman cartoon on Cartoon Network.

Hi! I'm not sure if you already found the answer to your first question, but I'll gladly supply as much info as I can think of right now to give you a bigger picture of who this character is. :)

::

Harleen Quinzel went to Gotham State University on a gymnastics scholarship, and then started to persue psychology. She wasn't grasping the material too well so she seduced her professor and got a job at Arkham Asylum. Home to the criminaly insane. ;) Some famous ones, at that.

There were all types of patients to deal with, but one always gave her this devilish look. This one patient with a grin was The Joker. He told her once that he especially "liked her name: Harleen Quinzel. Rework it a bit and you get Harley Quinn." "Like the clown character Harlequin. I know. I've heard it before," she replied. She couldn't stand his "presence" anymore and requested that he be under her care from now on. During their session(s) he opened up to her and informed her of an abusive childhood, etc. She was falling for him and falling hard. Then when he broke out of Arkham he was on the loose for a week or so, she was worried sick, and then Joker was brought back in by Batman, beaten but still well. THAT'S when Harleen snapped. She went to a shop and took a harlequin costume, a mask, a rubber chicken, and some extra materials, then headed back to the Asylum. She snuck in, raided the place, and stopped in front of Joker's cell/room/quarter/place/thing.. and he woke up to see this petite figure placing a bomb on the glass that kept him in. Smoke cleared and he looks up to see Harleen, as she says "Knock Knock Puddin'! Say hello to your new and improved Harley Quinn!!" And that's where this second identity came in.

They escape together and rode off into the sunset laughing hysterical. :P

That's basically the get-together. There's the relationship, too.. which Harley and Joker were on and off for some time. She also kept getting sent back to Arkham (7 times total, I think). He's got her so drunk on love she doesn't even stay in touch with sanity. She's completely smitten, he's just using her as his henchmen, etc etc.

I think, I'm 99% sure, she ends up breaking up with him and calls it quits for good. After that, I'm not too sure what happened. The details are a little blurry (which is why I'm buying the comics now, and downloading the episodes she's appeared in, to get better details on that tiny portion).

Time goes by and she is back at her profession, Joker is locked up in a place outside of Gotham, and she's plotting to take over where her Puddin' left off. The rest is Birds of Prey history. :)

Wow.. that's my longest post ever on ANY forum, I think. But definitely a fun one to write. Any other detail/question comes to mind, just ask.

Hope I helped!

lol.. That's what I meant, but I was trying to be subtle by saying seduced. Didn't wanna say they went on to have wild animal sex or something.

And there's like 4 Harley's on this forum, and we probably all feel the same way about the character. yay! :D And the Blue smiling fishies.. nice touch. ;)

Yeah... me too. Fighting HARLEY RULES over who the better character is? That's just nonsense! HARLEY RULES I mean, it's not like there's a HARLEY RULES competition on the HARLEY RULES actual program. HARLEY RULES It's just crazy. HARLEY RULES.

Here's my contribution, this is from the dccomics.com secret files.

Real name: Dr. Harleen Quinzel
Occupation: Former psychiatrist; The Joker's moll
Base of Operations: Gotham City
Marital Status: Single
Mental State: Denial
Height: 5' 7"
Weight: 115
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Blonde
First Appearance: BATMAN: HARLEY QUINN #1

The love of a bad man made Dr. Harleen Quinzel what she is today: CERTIFIABLE. While researching Arkham Asylum's lunatic fringe, the ill-fated psychiatric intern met the model murderer, the Joker, and fell head over heels. When the authorities discovered that Harleen aided the Clown Prince of Crime's all-too frequent escapes, her medical license was revoked...and Harleen was given her own padded cell from which to pine over her "Puddin'."

Freed from Arkham after Gotham City's cataclysmic earthquake, Harleen made herself over in greasepaint and tassles. As Harley Quinn, she was the perfect partner-in-crime--a curvy jester who delighted in mayhem as much as the Joker. However, the Ace of Knaves quickly tired of Harley's affections and gleefully shot her off in a rocket.

Crash-landing outside of Robinson Park, Harley was nursed back to health by Poison Ivy, who administered an herbal concoction which significantly enhanced Harley's strength and agility, while making her immune to most toxins. Recently reconciled with her "Mr. J," Harley hopes to lead him to the altar...if the Joker doesn't kill her first.

******

For me Harley is like the villian who doesn't mind being the sidekick (to Mistah J). But she's one of those characters that still stand out. Unlike sidekicks of past and present that people really would give them a 'side kick'. DC really did a good one with this character.
