why is the city called new gotham why not gotham city and what was the name of the city in the comics

New Gotham is the Gotham City rebuilt By Lex Luthor after the earthquake measruing 7.6 on the richter, which devastated the entire city. (Cataclysm). It lead onto the No Man's Land series where Gotham was literally disowned by the US government, it was down to sheer hard work on Bruce Waynes part and the aid of unlikely "ally" Lex Luthor, who had No Man's Land brought back to the US. Althought Lex just wanted all this for publicity for later help in becoming The President. Hope that helped :)
