In the different threads about Hubntress there keeps being arugments about Pre/Post Crisses Huntress.

What are your feelings?

I love BOTH versions of the Huntress, but I guess I'm more attached to the current (Helena Bertinelli) version simply because of the fact that I think there is more background to draw from for story content.

That is a great source for stories, but I like the original because of her connections to batman/catwoman. Also she is the original.

I guess both have thier pros and cons .... I wasn't really happy when DC wrote her out of continuty in COIE ... but was really happy when they created the new one.

I think the one major reason I like the new version more is that she is the only one with the balls to confront Batman on his terms.

In 1985 DC writer Marv Wolfman & penciller George Perez made a 12 part mini-series called Crisis on Infinite Earths from 1985-86 and in the 12 part storyline include the demise of the second Flash/Barry Allen,Earth-2's Huntress/Helena Wayne and Robin/Dick Grayson,Supergirl and the other except the well known characters; leading to a revised DCU and Zero Hour in 1994.

The Crisis series was basically DC's way of reorganzing and restucturing thier different alternate realities into one cohesive univsersal timeline.

Before the cirsis there was what was called palallel Earths ... basically different Earths that existed in the same time and space but in different dimensions. The PRE Crisis Huntress was from Earth 2, the writers of the time had "guests" popping in from one universe to another and there were SO many hands in the pot that things got confused sometimes.

So the idea to make the Universes one straight line was cooked up. Of course this meant that not every charactor or timeline was feesable. So they brainstormed and desided to salvage what they could and kept the options to re vamp and reintroduce certain charactors after the Crisis. The present day Huntress (Helena Bertinelli) falls into that catagory.

After the crisis Marv and George did a 2 issue mini-series which George drew intirely in splash pages (GREAT BOOKS.. you should pick them up) called The definative History of the DC Universe (at least i think thast the exact title I could be wrong) but these two issues basically explained the present day (post crisis) DC universe from the begining of time to present day.

In answer to your Supergirl question ... Kara Zor-El who was the ORIGINAL (Pre Crisis) Supergirl sacraficed her life to save Superman during the Crisis .. her death was very heroic, which to me was the LEAST that she deserved. The current (Post Crisis) Supergirl was brought to life by John Byrne, she was a protomorph entitiy that was brought into this Universe froma pocket Universe ..she was known by the name Matrix or Mae for short for a while .... Mae bonded with Linda Danvers to become the present day Supergirl whos own title was just canceled.

LOL .. to confuse matters EVEN MORE (if thats possible) there are two new Supergirls floating around now ... so now there are technically 3 possible Supergirls ... 4 if you include the original ... what will happen next is anyone guess.

LOL .. please don't make me do that again .... I'm just kidding let me know if you have any questions .. we'll all try to help out where we can.

Linda Danvers is one of the three, and she had a daughter, who I can only guess is one of the others, and the third would be Kara Zor-El from another universe (so crisses didn't get rid of all the parallel earths, just those created when the Guargian experiment went all wrong and created both the anti-matter universe and the multi-verse). So there are other universes just no major characters live in them, they just visit now and then.

1 = Kara Zor-El
2 = Linda / Matrix
3 = Cir-El - The new Supergirl introduced in the Superman 10 cent book.
4 = Ari - The baby linda gave birth to in the pocket Universe that the Spectror promised her would survive.

And remember the is also the "Kara" from the Superman / Aliens book ... so technically (once again) there could be 5.

Jesse-Oh I don't know em yet, I don't have the comics. I bought both of them off eBay about 10 minutes ago so within a week or two I'll have em.

Back to Supergirl:

So the Supergirl in the Supergirl movie (if I'm not mistaken that came out in '84, so it'd be pre-Crisis technically) was Kara Zor-El, right?

Also, I reallt didn't watch the Superman Animated Series as much, but which Supergirl is on that show?

Both the movie version and the animated version were the Pre-crisis versions.

BUT .... technically the Crisis never happened in the anitmated series so it was accepted as being closer to the pre crisis version with some post crisis revisions.

What happened was the costume and the charactor worked so well and were so liked, that when Matrix (who turn out to be one of the Fallen Earth Angles) was seperated from Linda and she lost alot of her powers, they worked the costume into mainstream comics continuity ... even though the charactors had nothing in common other than the outfit.

God ... sometimes I think things were easier when there were multiple earths.

Ooooo-Kay! That was very much confusing, LOL.

Is there a site out there that details the Crisis stuff? It'll be awhile before I can pick up a TPB or anything of the like...

DP ... here is a REALLY good site with very detailed explanations and tons of crosslinks to other sites with information of the crisis how and why it happened:

http://www.io.com/~woodward/chroma/crisis.html

You can do a Google search if this isn't what your looking for.

So are we still set at six? Cause I would say Matrix then Linda matrix as two dif supergirls, after all she changed so much when matrix combined with linda.

Jesse321
07-22-2003, 10:28 AM
Yes .. but Matrix really didn't exist after the merge so you can't really count her anymore as her own entitiy ... and remember ... she ended up merged with Twilight at the end of the Supergirl series ... Twilight healed Linda and restored her powers but to my knowledge Matrix (who ended upbeing one of the fallen Earth Angels) remained with Twilight.
