I haven't read the comics so I don't know if Reese is a new character or if he was in the comics.
I am not sure I want to have the detective fall in love with one of the main cast, at least not during the season.
I think he should be trying to find out what the girls are all about, and like he says to find the truth on what is going on in New Gotham after the sun goes down.
Do you have any ideas on how the detective will become? And how do you want him to behave?
Okay, I know that some shows get ruined when they stop the "will they or won't they" teasing banter between characters and put them together. Sometimes the tension and dynamic of the characters flirting doesn't work in a real relationship (in terms of television drama, not real life here). Huntress is basically a vigilante; quotes from her in the pilot indicate that she has an urge to kill, or at least is disappointed by Oracle's non-killing rule. These may be jokes, but given a pull to her ferocious darker side, they might just be her inner desire. Jake is a police officer, and he has to play by the rules. Given that he's trying to make up for his father's past, I'm sure he can't bring attention to himself, and if he looks the other way all of the time for Helena, he will no doubt cause suspicion. And what about when he learns about her metahuman abilities? Or about Dinah's? Is he the type of person who'd put them above his job as an officer, since he's trying to prove himself? I think it could make an interesting storyline, but if they ever want to go anywhere, I personally would prefer they not get together.
I don't think she has an urge to kill, she's just being playful and trying to annoy Oracle I think. Certainly no sign of any homicidal urges.
The main thing that could come between Helena and Reese is that she is effectively a vigilante, whereas he's a cop and probably not a big fan of vigilantes. Then again, his curiosity about her and his desire to do good because of his father could draw him to her.... It could get very interesting, provided they handle it right.
Shame there can't be an alter-ego thing, when he falls in love with both Helena and The Huntress, as she doesn't wear a mask! Damn, so many possibilities there..... Oh well, maybe there will be an alternative love interest for the detective... possible even the nutty Dr Quinzel. Ok, I'm speculating wildly now :)

i think the tension should be there........but it shouldn't go farther than that........at least not for a while......in this case i think they should follow the comics..........of course i have no idea what the comics say about this........

I don't want the detective and Huntress to get together, having a tension there is fine with me. They are way to different from each other, I know opposites attract but that would be to much. I don't think Huntresses and cops mix well.

you never know... opposites attract.
i'm not really bothered if they get together. he looks hot, so i'm happy for him just to run about doing his detective thing

Lol!
Yeah! We'll see how he goes and how the show progresses. Might be the next Mulder & Scully :) (or Max & Alec...!)

Is that a Max & Alec fan I spot?!? *runs over and hugs* :D
And to add to your list ... maybe the next Sydney & Vaughn (on Alias) too.
I've been wondering about the relationship between Helena & Jake too. I don't like forced tension between characters unless it's just there in the chemistry between the actors. I know for sure that I don't want the show's primary focus to be romance, and thus, I don't want to see Helena and Jake actually *together*. Sure, they can have lots of chemistry and tension, but that's where I'd like the writers to draw the line, at least for now.

I think they should just stick to Helena being playful and Reese being kinda apprehensive. That'd work, and have the bonus of being quite funny :) Always good

I just watched the unaired pilot again and to show you how the detective is...
The other detective mentions something about not wanting to be seen too often near Reese because he has ideas other doesn't like (mostly it is because he questions everything and believes that there is something out there).
Reese says things like: Myths are just the truth a few generations later.
We can see he likes his job, wants to do it right, and is kind of the Mulder in the Gotham PD.
I personally don't want Helena and Reese to be an "Alec & Max" or a "Sydney & Vaugn" or an anyone. I don't want them to just recyle other show's plotlines or character interactions.
Although I don't quite think they can Mulder-and-Scully, given, well, Reese is searching for the dark truth about strange and mysterious things, and Helena herself partly knows the truth and partly is a strange and mysterious thing. There really isn't the non-believer role for either to play.

Don't get me started on Vaughn. I'm not a huge Will/Syd shipper, but I still do prefer Will to Vaughn. The guy has character and at to avoid risk of being lynched, that's all I'll say.

Yes, exactly like that. He seemed to be more interested in believing the "unusual" ideas, such as Helena, than simple things like the killed himself cos he was depressed. If it's developed right, it could get interesting. Specially if eventually there are conflicts within the police dept.... :)

I don't want Reese and Helena to be pushed together romantically in any way. Look at what happened to Logan/Max. The cool thing about Mulder/Scully in there prime was that the show wasn't about there eventual romantic intrest. Yeah, I think they look kind of cute together, but I don't want scenes intentionally set up to set them up. If something sparks in a scene, great. If it doesn't, let it be.

I actually prefer the 'ship idea SG-1 writers have maintained through it's run. Jack & Sam are all in there with the luv, but they've NEVER let them get together properly and we're breakin' 6 years. The show and the character's dynamic isn't based on it, so it's a nice little extra to add depth to them. Be nice if BoP followed suit.
Yes it would be :) I'm hoping they do, I really can't see Helena becoming "attached" to someone. Really wouldn't work with the whole plot thing anyway.

That's not what I was trying to say. I don't want them to be like any other characters on other shows. What I meant was that if the producers/writers want them to have chemistry, I'd hope that they had enough chemistry between the actors like the actors who portray the aforementioned couples. That's all I meant. :D

*ponders* Everyone here has made some great points. My sig says that I'm becoming a Reese/Huntress 'shipper mainly because of the chemistry between the two actors.
At least, I think it's between the actors.
Having just that basic chemistry between two characters that comes directly from the actors' abilities is great. That's how it started off on Star Trek Voyager with Janeway and Chakotay... until the writers tried to get creative... *growls and rolls eyes* I think I'll stop on that before I get off-subject.
I don't know if I want Reese and Huntress to get together or not. The basic attraction that is between them now is great. Reese will keep trying to get a real name out of her while Huntress dances just out of his grasp.
Frankly, I'd be interested in seeing these two develop into friends first. Just see how that would turn out.

I like the whole tension idea, but anything further then that pulls away from the story.
If it happens and they do get together is will become another typical tv show with the same storyline. It become very blah and boring quick!
