View Full Version : This show really bugs me.....

First let me say that as much as enjoy watching this show there are a few things that bug me. And here there are:
1. Reese never heard of Batman? OK I thought that only seven years had pasted since Batman disappeared so why does the show make it seem like twenty years have pasted. I find it hard to believe that everyone had forgotten Batman! I mean the guy was in the papers and I'm sure that people like Barbara still remember him thus they still mention him from time to time. One more thing Reese works for the police deptpartment. How in the world can he not know about Batman. Com. Gordon knew about him not to mention they have the Bat signal on top of their roof.
2. Harley --- Does she know who Helena is? Does she know that the "school teacher" is Barbara Gordon? It seems to me that she doesn't at the moment. The metahumans she hires aren't to go after the Huntress. My biggest fear is that this show is going to turn towards Harley hiring Metahumans to go after the BOP and if that happens then I think it would ruin the show.
3. Since the show began I've heard Batman mentioned a lot. Mostly from Barbara. For once I would like to see Catwoman mentioned a few times. Especially from Helena considering that she IS her daughter. I mean besides what she tells Harley. Catwoman was a thief ---- the show doesn't let us know how Helena feels about that, or even Barbara. I think they should have a few storylines that deals with catwoman. I wonder what she did with all the things that she had stolen.
There are other things that bug me but for now this is all that I'm posting. (My hands are getting tired of typing.)

Catwoman and her history as a thief gets mentioned in 'Sins of the Mother' (not to spoil too much), especially by Carolyn, who knew Catwoman.

This is kinda random, but for those of you who watched Dark Angel, have you noticed how much alike these two shows are? Just something I kinda noticed.

DA and BoP are alike..But really..any sci-fi show like this would be alike....

Yup I noticed, especially with the bit at the end of each episode where they look out at the city from a tall building, like the space needle in DA.

1. Reese not knowing who Batman is is based on the "Batman is an Urban Myth" idea that they've used in the comics in the recent past. The idea is that Batman is a mysterious character that few know for sure exists other than those who have encountered him and most of them criminals--sort of like people abducted by space aliens, people who have seen bigfoot. Commissioner Gordon knew and worked with him but I don't know how the bat-signal figured into it at all. Batman preferred to be thought of as a legend so Batgirl wouldn't be talking about him to those not in on the secret. BOP is usuing this idea because it fits in with the underground society of meta-humans and costumed types that the regular world isn't aware of theme.

2. I don't think Harley knows Helena is the Huntress or the Barbara has any idea who the court appointed psychiatrist Helena was going to is to make any connection which I think she would. I doubt Helena has mentioned to Barbara she is continuing to see a therapist. I think Harley is interested in Helena more as billionaire Bruce Wayne's daughter than her other identity.
So far Harley's use of meta-humans has been limited to implimenting whatever evil plan she has though the Birds have thwarted her--the plan is the object and not eliminating them. They're just incidental problems. She's not even aware they exist at this point.

3. Sure I'd like to see a lot more mentions of Catwoman but they have got the other characters to follow, too. I kind of like that "Sins of the Mother" will focus on Black Canary and only in passing refer to Catwoman, which would have been more predictable. But some show in the future about Selina--please not the embodiment of evil-- yes, definitely.

Yeah, as Batman has been gone for a while and was really only known to the big villains and a few cops, he's kinda become an urban legend, one that's been forgotten.

The DA-BoP similarity is quite pronounced :) Makes me remember DA..... always good :D

I agree with the Catwoman thing, I would love to hear more about her than "she was a thief", "she was batman's love" and "She died". I'd like to know what Helena's perspective on her mother as a mother is.

I've said this sooooo many times myself. We could compare it to buffy too. And X-men and mutant X and proably other shows and come up with a lot of surface similarities.

Just like you could take any "space travel show" and find a whole list of similarities.

That bugged me too....it only happened 7 years ago, how could he have not heard of Batman? And I think next weeks show "Sins of the Mother" will address Helena's feelings about her mother. Check out the synopsis.

Just like you could take any "space travel show" and find a whole list of similarities. Charmed was also having a fit that this was really similar to them...powers and three girls fighting together. But, I believe, the more the merrier! Shows like this never get tiring for me ;) I also agree with you Hecate, a lot. Batman would tend to be a myth but I'd love for the girls to see more on BatGirl and how she used to be or Helena remembering some things of the past with Barbara/BatGirl.
