how many think that they are going to make her wheelchair absolutely magical? I mean, let it go through rocks or snow really easily. A lot of shows have them do that and it ticks my grandma off a lot because she's in one. Do you think they'd do that or cure her later in the show? I think curing her would be playing god too much...Jeez I fear they'll have SuperWheelChair...

I don't know about a super wheelchair, but I believe her chair has gotten smaller. The first episode had her in one with big wheels, but the one she's been lately, I hardly notice the wheels. I did read in an interview that one of her chairs wasn't working properly - some sort of delayed response that affected her timing. Looks like they fixed that problem with a new wheelchair.

Her new wheel chair did kick some major ass on the last episode along with her stick fighting skills.:D

I like that they've gone back to the smaller wheelchair. The one they had in the pilot (when she was in the classroom and met Wade for the first time) was very, very big and cumbersome looking, and just wrong. This one is nice and neat.

And I think it's already a bit of the Super Wheel Chair. I mean she doesn't seem to have any difficulty getting anywhere. Like how did she get up onto that roof in "Prey for the Hunter"? I mean even if that old, rickety looking building still had a functioning elevator, you still ususally have to take stairs to get onto the roof.

Oh well, at least it looks cool...

I'm still trying to figure out how come she is able to drive. I know that there a special cars that are made for people in wheelchairs but she makes it seem so easy. I mean I would think it would take at least 10-15 minutes getting out the car. In the show it's like she pops in and she pops out. (I just got a funny picture of this in my head, hee hee.) :D Then again I wouldn't know.

This has actually been a topic of concern for me because I think Oracle using a wheelchair is a very important role to play on TV...I mean she's cool, beautiful, and tough...it's cool. Still, the realistic portrayal has bugged me from the start. I mean, her injury doesn't require her to use an electric chair, but I understand where, as a superhero she'd want to, but when she's at school and with Wade etc. she should use a manual chair...much more touchable...maybe Wade's parents would have been a "LITTLE" more understanding???

I agree almost completely, newworld. For the sake of the story --- the CONCEPT --- Oracle must remain in a chair. She's Oracle because she uses a chair instead of her legs. Taking her out of it would be a cop-out of major proportion, a suggestion of writer's brain-cramp. And I, too have thought from the beginning that the intimidating robo-chair is inconsistent with the determination behind Barbara Gordon's transformation. It seems to me she wouldn't want to be any more passive that absolutely necessary. A subconscious attempt to keep people away? I don't think so. And someone's gotta explain to me how she gets RoboChair into and out of the Hummer. If we're going to have a television character in a wheelchair --- and it's about time --- let's be true to the logistics as well as the emotion.

Not to harp on the subject, isn't that what these message boards are all about?, but I totally agree with the Hummer dilemma and others...my best friend uses a wheelchair and it's becoming more and more difficult to justify Oracle's actions...I mean I totally love her...she's definitely the character with the most depth and most deserving of a further attempt at exploring that character, but it's like watching a movie about Louis XIV and him having a British accent...it just jumps out at me...maybe just because of my nearness to the situation. I'd just like to see more of a differentiation between the "realness" of Barbara Gordon and the totally awesome, anal technobable Oracle. I believe they've had this same issue in the comics. I mean why did they go through the trouble of puting her in a manual chair for the promo pictures and not have it in the show?

Well said.
Regarding the promotional photos, I agree completely. Those pix may have been shot before the decision was made to use RoboChair. Didn't Dina Meyer refer to 'aesthetic' considerations and camera angles? I wasn't sure what that meant when I read it, and I haven't seen it clarified anywhere. Maybe somone can help us with that.
I was pleased to see that someone else draws a distinction between two distinct characters. I figure that Barbara Gordon is Oracle, but Oracle is NOT Barbara Gordon --- one has transformed herself from an earlier life and carries the baggage of that, the other is the result of the transformation. I agree that both should be explored. And if anyone can pull it off, it's Dina Meyer.

I think it's been made very clear that the Oracle is this new, together, megacomputer person who is very focussed on the job at hand...which is so true to the comic...but, like in the Prey for the Hunter episode where she voiced that, "You're right, I don't know anything about being different.", reality creeps in and I think it would be a shame if they didn't allow Barbara to expose some of those insecurities...they kind of miss that in the books too, they spend so much time with her as Oracle figuring everything out, that you never know how she deals day to day with the fact that she can't walk...not that i think they should harp on it, but they tend to gloss over it a lot...she is, afterall, HUMAN, and I'd like to see that side of her...and I think Dina Meyer has the perfect personality for this...I love her voice and how she comes off physically and otherwise...very convincing. I suppose I could talk this subject to death. SORRY.

There's a lot to talk about, all right ... while we wait to see how the Barbara subplot of 'Primal Scream' is handled. I hope it's done in a way that's more satisfactory than a line or two to sum up her meeting with Wade's parents! I understand the emphasis on villains and fight scenes, but Barbara is too good a character to be given short shrift!

I hope that as the show progresses, Dinah and Barbara will slowly begin to fight with Helena as a team. I think this fact is very important to the success of the show. If we keep on seeing Huntress kick butt while Dinah and Oracle just cheer her on on the sidelines, it would get fairly boring, especially for those of us who are DINA or RACHEL fans. Having the three of them fight together (as seen in Three Birds and a Baby) would certainly turn inconsistent viewers into dedicated BoP fans. :)

Plus, the show has three beautiful actors: Don't let them go to waste! :fume:
