I've been watching the show for about a month but I can't really understand it. Can someone answer these questions?
1. Is Mutant X cancelled and they're showing reruns? Or is it still going on?
2. Is Shalimar and Brennan dating? (Sometimes they act like they're together but then he always seems to make her mad all the time)
3. What is Emma? (in this one episode where three others had the same powers as Shal, Brennan, and Jesse, no one had Emma's. And she talked about magic and spells)
4.Who is the guy with the glasses and the white hair?
Can anyone answer me these questions?

yagenhoogen - where did you get your information that the show was cancelled? I heard they were renewed for a third season and as for the lawsuits, that was cleared up before the show first aired.
Please let me know if you are mistaking this old lawsuite for something recent.

It isnt really a rip off. only the "Mutant" thing. Because, in X-Men: The mutation of the genes was EVOLUTION as they said in the beginning. But, in Mutant X: it was science that mutated their genes.

Mutant X was the ORIGINAL name for Proteous .. which was a major villain in the X-Men books around issues 126 thru 128 (I think) also where was a short lived book by that name published by Marvel ... I think it starred Havok (Cyclops's brother) who was flung into an alternate realilty ... please note i'm not completely sure about the the storylines as I never read the Mutant X book myself.
Marvel sued for copyright infringement and the case was settled out of court ... but Impulse, Mutant X's concept is a TOTAL rip off of the X-men ... think about it ...
Mutants feared by humanity trying to help with there powers all the while trying not to devulge thier existance to the world (Gee sounds like the X-Men to me)
Adam who invented or perfected Geinum X which caused the mutations and is now banning this group together to fight the battle that is coming up and running an underground railroad for mutants (Gee doesn't that sound ALOT like Prof. X)
The evil guy who is using mutants to exterminate mutants and sees them as the ultimate weapon for power ... (Gee that sounds an AWFUL lot like Magneto to me)
While the names are different .. the concepts are TOTALLY the same ... but you can't copyright a concept ... Mutant X's mistake is that Marvel did use several of the names previously therefore they had right of first refusal on them .. which is why they won the case ... and if you note now ... Marvel owns part of Mutant X and therefore advertises themselves as one of the shows production companies.
And NO it HAS NOT been canceled ... SGH is right but its actually been renewed for another 2 years not 1 .. which is amazing for a syndicated show !!

But see, the reason that Mutant X has been doing so well (and I agree, it does sound like X-Men, but that's a good thing) is because no one made an X-Men T.V. show, if you don't count the animated series.

"1. it is not. The season is over. " Yup
"2. Sort of. They are still kind of getting there." but they have not actually started seeing each other, and they often see others. Ofcourse it never works with others.
"3. Emma is a telepath....she can do some cool stuff with her mind." Psionic, is the correct term for what emma is, even though it mainly means telepath it cover more then telepathy (including Telepathic - Mind readers
Telekinetic - Able to move objects with the mind
Telempathic - Able to read and adjust emotions
Precog - Able to see future events
Illusionist - Projects unreal visuals or attitudes)
4. He is the bad guy. Bad..very bad." He was the main big bad until they brought Caleb from "Port Charles" I forget what his name was in MX but he was all four types of mutants in one. Eventually his power distroyed him, and a few months later there was no big bad until Eckhart returned. Eckhart is the guy with white hair
Also the four types of mutants are
FERAL
Subject's DNA has been spliced with that of an animal. They possess many characteristics (mental & physical) of the creature.
ELEMENTAL
Subjects have the ability to channel elemental/environmental energy through their bodies.
MOLECULAR
Subjects possess attributes to defy physical science.
PSIONIC
Subjects possess heightened mental capabilities.
and Emma is one of the most powerful, both specifically psionics and mutants in general.

thanx. psionic? wow. thats weird. and another question:
In the intro to each show, Adam says that he manipulated genes to save lives. Were Brennan, Shal, Emma, and Jesse sick to begin with?
Jesse321
07-02-2003, 07:56 PM
I didn't watch the first shows .. but it stands to reason that they did have some sort of ailment that Adam was trying to cure.
By the way .... FYI .... season 1 of Mutant X will be being released on DVD soon ... BUT not in a collective series like most shows .. it will be released 1 DVD at a time with an unspecified number of episodes on each DVD ... good luck trying to sell them ... most consumers have grown a bot more savy than to fall for that crap again !!!

Some did have ailments that he was trying to cure. Some would have died and others were in accidents. I can't remember exactly who fits in that catagory but I do remember that part.
The genetic experiements saved some of their lives.

If the series will continue for a fourth season, I hope Emma could come back for at least one episode. If this Dominion group had cloned Adam, why not clone an evil version of Emma?

Oh lord, I think I was a different person when I posted this. Lexa is now my favorite character, I know all there is to know about Mutant X, NO! I do not think Bren and Shal were dating and I laugh at myself for ever thinking that. I even have a site made for Lexa (the brunette from Adventure Inc)
Is it over now? I really hope not, this is one of my fave shows! Alas, I think it is over...but then again, they might as well quit while they're ahead, I guess. All the good shows are too short lived!!!

Yes, Tribune has stopped production after a producing company, CanWest, was sold ... they have decided to place their money with Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda. However, they are airing "The Best of Mutant X" starting the week of September 22-27 I believe. Episodes from Season 1, 2, & 3. This rerun-Season 4 is going to air until September of 2005 and they are trying to find another partner to back Mutant X up. Comics Continuum also says that there is a slim chance of making a "TV Movie" to wrap up the series. But a slim chance. Keep those fingers crossed.

I could really go for a TV movie, as long as the FX and story is good. But why make just one when they could make more?
Impulse

I'm sure it's cheaper to make one two-hour TV-movie than a season of 22 eps. Anyhow, I got it on a VERY good source that the cast wasn't aware of any TV movie. And I guess the cast should know if they are being called back as Shal, Bren, Jess, or Lexa.

It certainly would be great to have the show back, but I'd take anything I could get. But I won't be getting my hopes up too much. I did notice though that they are sort of updating the Mutant X site. No new info, but the date finally changed for the first time in three months. :D

Don't know where all you guys are (america, germany etc) I just wanna say to the first thread the following:
1. Mutant X has been cancelled, yep it sure has. Something about copright infringment
2.Shal and Bren flirt a heck of a whole lot, very frustrating at times. The only thing i know is that they had sex in the series finale.
3.Emma (Lauren Lee Smith) was the psionic (telempath actually) of the group.
4.Mason Eckhart is the guy with the glasses. (A dork in my eyes) He had a big problemo with germs (i think) and something about his genetic mutation went wrong which made him get sick easy and from anything.(I think)
Lexa is a molecular jus tlike jesse(she can manipulate light) yada yada yada. That's all i got want anymore info let me know.
*side note, even though mutant x was cancelled it's "sister" show andromeda was not!yeah! Their new season is now being aired on scifi! :)*
Lexa is an elemental like Brennan, that's why she can throw light from her hands.

When Adam first tried to shut down Genomex he fought Eckhart. During the skirmish Eckhart got exposed to something that ruined the protective qualities of his skin. Thus his skin couldn't protect him from everyday germs and direct sunlight.

Lexa is an elemental like Brennan, that's why she can throw light from her hands.
No, she is not, she is a Light Chromatic. this is from the genomex faux site, linked directly to the Official Site of Mutant X. She might be a molecular-elemental hybird, but she is a molecular.
MOLECULAR
Subjects possess attributes to defy physical science.
KNOWN TYPES:
Intangibility - Able to move through solids
Imperviousness - Withstands physical penetration
Invisibility
Propulsion - Accelerated motion or speed
Gravitative - Able to alter weight in self, others or objects
Chromatic - Effects color, light, etc…
Stasis-suspension - Effects time
Replication - Self-cloning, etc…
Elasticity - Able to alter size or shape (EXTREMELY RARE)
1. Mutant X has been cancelled, yep it sure has. Something about copright infringment
No, it was cancelled because it's producing company Fireworks was sold ... Mutant X got sued a long time ago for copyright infringment. Here is the article:
Hot Seat
By Paige Albiniak -- Broadcasting & Cable, 5/17/2004
When Fireworks Entertainment found itself in financial straits, it put Tribune Entertainment in the hot seat. Fireworks, a division of CanWest Global, produces action hours Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda and Mutant X in concert with Tribune. Tribune handles domestic distribution; Fireworks services international.
Fireworks' cost-cutting dilemma, brought on largely by the deteriorated state of the international TV market, forced it to consider dropping both shows. Enter Tribune Entertainment President Dick Askin, who persuaded Fireworks to keep producing Andromeda. The show is going into its fifth season, performs internationally, and starts a deal with the Sci Fi Channel this fall in which the original episode will premiere on cable, then air a week later in broadcast syndication.
"Because of Roddenberry and star Kevin Sorbo, Andromedaalways has been a bigger project on a global basis," Askin says.
Mutant X isn't as lucky. Fireworks ceased production, though the show is renewed for its fourth season and scores domestically. But internationally, it wasn't profitable. "When we got into both of these projects," Askin says, "the foreign market was much stronger than it is now."
Mutant X will air in best-of repeats on stations next fall, and Askin hopes another foreign production company will step into the breach, allowing Tribune to restart production for season five. "It would be challenging to reassemble the cast and crew," he says, "but we'd be able to relaunch if we could find the right partner."
For now, Tribune has been unable to find the partner it needs to meet an October premiere date.
A third action hour, Tribune's Beastmaster, is exiting broadcast syndication after three seasons, two in original production. It premieres on Sci Fi in September.
"The international market is improving, but it still has a long way to go," Askin says. "The consensus is that it will never get back to where it was five years ago."
Impulse,
Where did you get this info, how reliable is the scource? I am a big MX fan.
As am I, the source has to be kept anonymous because this person got into a bit of trouble after letting the fans know of the situation ... but I can tell you, this person is directly linked to Mutant X.
Trust me, guys, I wouldn't say all this if I wasn't ABSOLUTELY sure of what I'm talking about.
Impulse,
Your article date that you quote from is 5.17.04. If that is true then why did MX end with a cliffhanger? I think that stinks for fans and why the lousy and poorly written and impossible to understand ep " the Prophecy." Someone at MX needs a course in people skills. oh us poor fans knocked around again, someone help us.

Karen Cliche on her Official Forum said she wrapped up filming S3 in February, that's why. The last episode was the Assault, and that's why they are thinking of wrapping up the series with a TV movie because the Assault left such a big cliffhanger.
Okay,okay...
I hope they find the right partner so they can relaunch for S5

^ It definetly sucks for the people who bought them individually. I saw how much those were. *remembers eyes bugging out* It was like that for Andromeda too....same price per volume as Mutant X. And when they came out as a box set, it was like $50 bucks a season. Heh. Talk about a savings.
Glad it's coming out though, I was worried that with the cancellation, they might not do a box set.

Breaking (and sad) news, everyone! :( And this source is legit, Tribune will NOT be making a Television Movie to wrap up the series. However, there is always hope and always a chance, however slim it may be. So, the Petition is BACK! http://www.petitiononline.com/savemx/petition.html Please. Birds of Prey was canceled, there aren't a lot of good shows left! Please, even if you don't think there is a chance of it being saved, sign it anway! What harm could the petition do?
