Sorry, Im a real newb at this, I´ve almost only watched the batman cartoon...
What is this crisis thing everyone is talking about?
Post and pre crisis... I used to like DBZ, and there were allways discusion on how Post crisis
(or was it pre?) Superman who could take Goku, while the other one couldn´t...
So is this crisis thing a change in DC or something?

OKAY ... here is the QUICK answer to it .. and please keep in mind that I'm REALLY over simplifiying the whole story ...

about 15 to 20 years ago the DC Universe was made up of multiple realites ... different Earths, dimensions, parallel Universes and so forth. Each Earth was home to a different age or race or age of heros ... for example Earth 1 was the home of the original Justice League and most of the Heros we know today. Earth 2 was home to the Justice Society and on that Earth Batman & Catwoman had a daugther .. the original Huntress. Earth X was home to the Crime Syndicate ... who was basically an evil version of all the well known DC heros and Lex Luther was the only Hero fighting for justice ... if you've ever seen the original Star Trek ... think of the episode "Mirror Mirror" and you will get the idea. There were quite a few more but I'm not going to go into listing all of them.

For the most part these worlds were all kept separate for years ... but one day one of the writers got an idea that it would be cool to have people from Earth 1 visit Earth 2 and vice versa .. so the heros started crossing over from one Earth to another which made for VERY confusing continuity as it became really difficult to keep track of who was where and when.

So in order to clean house DC came up with a Project called Crisis on Infinate Earths ... in a nutshell and again this is REALLY over simplifiying the story ... the entire universe was destroyed and taken to the point of the big bag ... and reorganized into one cohesive collective storyline ... SO rather than have the Justice Society on an alternate planet they exisited in the ear of World War 2 ... The Huntress of Earth 2 was wiped out because in this reaility Batman and Catwoman never had a child ... Supergirl (the original Supergirl Kara Zor-el) was killed as was The Flash (Barry Allen) and Wonder Woman was basically killed too but later brought back.

If you look around there are a couple of threads in the Book Discussion area discussing this subject already.

Yes and No ... that Flash on the JL cartoon is Wally West who was originally Kid Flash .... he took over the mantle of the Flash when the original Flash (Barry Allen) was killed in the Crisis.

Jesse...thank you for such a great explanation on a potentially confusing topic (at least for those in the dark, like me!). I've been wondering about that same thing for quite a while, but never had the courage to ask!

Thanks for asking that question, Tobberoth. You're braver than I am. :D

*jaguarin read Jesse post*

God!!!!, What is DC Comics obsession with killing the best superheroes? Super Girl, WW, Flash, and later they are looking for somenew and bring us new duck heroes (translation:very bad new ones.) For that reason Marvel is wining the race, they never change the original idea of Men X, Spiderman, Hulk and Fantastic 4..... GRRRRR

JAg .. you OBVIOSULY aren't reading the Fantastic Four now ... man that books is PATHETIC !!! Its been lousy since Byrne left it.

Dixie ... my pleaure ... I tried to make my explaination as simple as possible, but trust me there is TONS more to it than that, but at least with that you will get the major jist of the storyline.

Glad to have been able to help. :D

I really haven't read the FF in quite a while simply because the writing has been so lousy.

I can over look bad art as long as the writing is good ... but even great art won't make me read a book thats written badly.

Does anyone know if they're planning some sort of a "Crisis on Earth" thing? A Post-Crisis retelling of the Crisis?

Jesse321

FB .. DC is re-relisting the COIE Graphic novels and the The Definative History of DC Universe for sale again in November.

But I have a feeling that we will see a MAJOR cross-over a la COIE in summer of 2004 which will involved just about EVERY DC title for several months from the rumors that I'm hearing around the store ... details are sketchy right now but I'll post what I hear as I hear it.

No, no, no, that's not what I mean. In like secret files and stuff, they retold some of the Pre-Crisis stories involving multiple Earths without the multiple Earths part, ie The Flash of Two Worlds, some of the JLA/JSA teamups, etc. The Crisis is a great story, but so many of the things in it have been erased from continuity, mainly the whole multiple Earths thing. The people that participated in the Crisis that haven't been retconned away still remember the Crisis, but they don't remember it as it was depicted (except the Psycho Pirate). I'm wondering if DC will ever put out a Post-Crisis retelling of the Crisis.

Not that I'm aware of ... but why don't you suggest it on the DC boards.

If you don't like me you can tell me directly, I will not be hurt. But I should tell you that I have already apologized for my truthful, yet rude, comments that had been directed at no person in specific.

HUH ??? DBZ .. if that is directed at someone specifiily .. I would suggest you take it to PM ... if that was directed at me I don't harbor any ill feelings ... and I've learned to take comments here rude or otherwise with a grain of salt.

Jesse - you said you don't read the FF because some are not written well. We have some fantastic writers on this board - you really should give it a chance here. Sorry, just had to interject that. Carry on .. :)

Actually, I think that in this case Jesse was referring to FF as in Fantastic Four. In the past, the writers of the comic have left something to be desired.

LMAO! Oops! Well what do I know?! I don't read comics! And FF is the initials everyone uses for Fan Fiction!

Well either way, read the fan fiction too!

Claremont's run on the FF wasn't so great. Ever since Byrne's run they've been having a hard time handling Franklin as well.

And yet Byrne continues to get crap for his runs on many books ... go figure.

Crisis on Infinite Earths is available in various hard cover and trade paperback editions through stores like Amazon, and its certainly worth reading - though a bit confusing if you aren't familiar with the various permutations. Although there's a lot of exposition, it still assumes a fair degree of familiarity with the comic universes. The art work is great

There are a number of yahoo groups devoted to the lost earths.

I still miss earths 2 and x (sigh).

The whole point of COIE's was to straighten out the whole multi universe mess, but it was a GREAT series during its time and to tell the truth, IMO its never really been topped to this day.

The Crisis created more problems than it solved.
