BURBANK, CA (November 7, 2002) - The WB Television Network has begun its November sweep on the same red-hot streak that launched the season. Through the first week of the November 2002 sweep, the network enjoys double-digit ratings growth across the board fueled by another record-breaking Tuesday performance by SMALLVILLE and GILMORE GIRLS and the strong Wednesday tandem of BIRDS OF PREY and DAWSON'S CREEK.
Through Week One of the November 2002 sweeps (10/31/02-11/06/02), The WB has the strongest gains over last November of any network in Total Viewers (4.8 million, up 13%), persons 12-34 (2.5/7, up 14%), adults 18-34 (2.4/7, up 19%) and adults 18-49 (2.1/5, up 11%), as well as all other 12-34, 18-34 and 18-49 demographics. The WB ranks #3 for the sweep in females 12-34 (3.2/9), defeating CBS, FOX and UPN, and ranks #1 for November in female teens (3.3/12). In the key women 18-34 demographic, The WB (3.1/9) is neck and neck with CBS (3.4/10) and FOX (3.3/9), with just a few tenths of a rating point separating the three. The WB is also hot on the heels of CBS in persons 12-34 (2.5/7) and adults 18-34 (2.5/7).
On one of the most competitive nights in network television, The WB continued to take a bite out of the older networks with its best night ever among adults 18-49 (3.7/9). Both GILMORE GIRLS (6.95 million) and SMALLVILLE (9.4 million) achieved new all-time series highs in total viewers as the network set new Tuesday records in adults 18-34 (4.4/12), women 18-34 (5.3/14), adults 18-49 (3.7/9) and women 18-49 (4.3/10), as well as total viewers (8.2 million). The WB Tuesday also achieved season high deliveries in HH rating (5.0/7), persons 12-34 (4.7/13), females 12-34 (5.5/15), Teens 12-17 (5.2/17) and male teens (4.4/13).
SMALLVILLE ranked #1 for the night in persons 12-34 (5.5/15), females 12-34 (5.7/15), women 18-34 (5.6/14), teens 12-17 (6.2/20) and male teens (6.5/19). SMALLVILLE ranked #1 in its time period in female teens (5.9/21) and finished #2 in its hour, just a few tenths of a rating point out of first and closing in on FOX¿s ¿24¿, in adults 18-34 (5.2/13) and males 12-34 (5.3/14). The show also ranked #2 in the time slot among men 18-34 (4.8/12) and finished #3 in the time period among adults 18-49 (4.4/10) and men 18-49 (4.2/9).
SMALLVILLE posted huge double-digit growth across the board versus the parallel night a year ago, including +38% in person 12-34, +24% in adults 18-34 and +38% in adults 18-49. The program also gained dramatically year-to-year among teens 12-17 (up 88%), female teens (up 59%) and male teens (up 177%).
Additionally, SMALLVILLE equaled its highest ratings ever in adults 18-49 (4.4/10), set a new series record in women 18-49 (4.7/10) and male teens (6.5/19), and matched its second highest ever in adults 18-34 (5.2/13).
At 8:00pm, GILMORE GIRLS also set new series records in total viewers (6.95 million) and households (4.5/7), while ranking #1 for the night in female teens (6.1/20) and #1 in its time period in females 12-34 (5.3/13). The show finished a very strong #2 in its time period among women 18-34 (5.0/13), just one-tenth of a rating point behind NBC's "Fear Factor," as well as teens 12-17 (4.2/13). GILMORE GIRLS finished #3 in its time slot among persons 12-34 (3.8/11) and women 18-49 (4.0/10). The critically acclaimed program achieved its second highest numbers ever in adults 18-34 (3.7/10), adults 18-49 (2.9/7) and women 18-49 (4.0/11) and equaled its second highest yet in women 18-34 (5.0/13).
GILMORE GIRLS racked up outstanding year-to-year gains across every key demo, building +12% over the parallel night a year ago in persons 12-34, +23% in adults 18-34 and +16% in adults 18-49.
On The WB Wednesday, DAWSON'S CREEK defeated NBC's "Ed," FOX's "Bernie Mac/Cedric the Entertainer," and UPN's "Enterprise," to finish #3 in women 18-34 (5.0/14 - within a tenth of a rating point of ABC), adults 18-34 (3.7/11), and females 12-34 (4.5/13). The series topped both NBC and UPN in the hour among persons 12-34 (3.2/10), ranked #3 in female teens (3.0/10), and tied NBC in teens (1.9/6). The program registered impressive year-to-year gains across all 12-34, 18-34, and 18-49 demos, including a +47% increase in women 18-34, and a +29% growth in women 18-49 (3.1/8).
