RECORD-BREAKING TUESDAY AND STRONG WEDNESDAY LEAD THE NETWORK TO BIGGEST YEAR-TO-YEAR NOVEMBER SWEEP GAINS OF ANY BROADCAST NETWORK

WARNER BROS. TELEVISION'S "SMALLVILLE" AND "GILMORE GIRLS" SET NEW ALL-TIME HIGHS IN TOTAL VIEWERS AND ACROSS KEY DEMOS AS THE WB NETWORK HAS THE BIGGEST TUESDAY IN ITS HISTORY

"BIRDS OF PREY" AND "DAWSON'S CREEK" YIELD MASSIVE YEAR-TO-YEAR WEDNESDAY GAIN FOR THE NETWORK
BURBANK, CA (November 7, 2002) - The WB Television Network has begun its November sweep on the same red-hot streak that launched the season. Through the first week of the November 2002 sweep, the network enjoys double-digit ratings growth across the board fueled by another record-breaking Tuesday performance by SMALLVILLE and GILMORE GIRLS and the strong Wednesday tandem of BIRDS OF PREY and DAWSON'S CREEK.

Through Week One of the November 2002 sweeps (10/31/02-11/06/02), The WB has the strongest gains over last November of any network in Total Viewers (4.8 million, up 13%), persons 12-34 (2.5/7, up 14%), adults 18-34 (2.4/7, up 19%) and adults 18-49 (2.1/5, up 11%), as well as all other 12-34, 18-34 and 18-49 demographics. The WB ranks #3 for the sweep in females 12-34 (3.2/9), defeating CBS, FOX and UPN, and ranks #1 for November in female teens (3.3/12). In the key women 18-34 demographic, The WB (3.1/9) is neck and neck with CBS (3.4/10) and FOX (3.3/9), with just a few tenths of a rating point separating the three. The WB is also hot on the heels of CBS in persons 12-34 (2.5/7) and adults 18-34 (2.5/7).

On one of the most competitive nights in network television, The WB continued to take a bite out of the older networks with its best night ever among adults 18-49 (3.7/9). Both GILMORE GIRLS (6.95 million) and SMALLVILLE (9.4 million) achieved new all-time series highs in total viewers as the network set new Tuesday records in adults 18-34 (4.4/12), women 18-34 (5.3/14), adults 18-49 (3.7/9) and women 18-49 (4.3/10), as well as total viewers (8.2 million). SMALLVILLE ranked #1 in its time period in female teens (5.9/21) and finished #2 in its hour, just a few tenths of a rating point out of first and closing in on FOX¿s ¿24¿, in adults 18-34 (5.2/13) and males 12-34 (5.3/14). The show also ranked #2 in the time slot among men 18-34 (4.8/12) and finished #3 in the time period among adults 18-49 (4.4/10) and men 18-49 (4.2/9).

I really hope they keep the show. I also think that a good idea would be to put it after smallville.

When was this press release released? I think it'd be cool if it was on after Smallville.

this press release was on the first week of november sweeps

Perhaps they really should put BoP on after Smallville, you know, just for a trial run. Then see what happens. If the ratings shoot through the roof, then by all means, keep it paired with Smallville. If not, then put it back on Wednesday.

Come on WB! Work with it a little! Tweak! TRY something! *face pleading*

I agree. Put it on behind Smallville. I watch that every week anyway, and it certainly can't hurt the ratings!

What's odd is that WB posts that press release, making noise about how great BoP is, and then wants to cancel?

Where's the bloody logic?

Ok, I'm new... and let me say... I really don't even like TV. lol. I have always been a comic fan and I saw a few episodes of Smallville, and really enjoyed it. I watched the pilot of Birds of Prey, and wasn't incredibly impressed. But, I gave it a chance. I missed one episode so far, but I have to say, it gets better every week. I think WB will be making a big mistake if they pull this show. Next week will be a true test. Now that The Batchelor is gone and no Victoria Secret special airing, I think Birds of Prey has a real chance to kick some ass. Especially with them coming in with a heavy hitter like Lady Shiva. A lot of potential there. I am getting my letters ready to send to the WB in protest of the cancelation and writing my emails. I do feel that a back to back with Smallville makes much more sense, and they should capitalize on the success of Smallville, and make it another hit show in Birds of Prey. Thanks. :)

This is it folks. one more wendsday of november sweeps. So far BoP is 1-2 against cancelation. In my opinion there still a chance a slim chance but a chance none the less. Is up to "Lady Shiva" to bring in the numbers. But i have to wonder; What kind of lead in the pilot would make?

No, what Dina said is that production will continue on the remaining episodes, but that no new episodes have been ordered. WB confirmed with TV Guide and the LA convention that the show has been cancelled. The BoP comic book one-shot special, based on the TV show, has also been cancelled.

Not to sound pessimistic -- I haven't given up -- the WB release that started this thread refers to the first week of sweeps, when ratings weren't in the tank.
I was glad to hear reports of the Dina Meyer comments to Howard Stern to the effect that production continues. That's what's critical here -- she says that as of Friday morning, production hasn't stopped. I will assume that's the case until there is definite word otherwise, and will not get bogged down in the 'Cancelled. No, it's not. Yes, it is,. Isn't.' waste of energy. NO ONE, it seems, knows what the hell is going on. That's television.

TheWraith

Production will continue on the 13 episodes ordered last year, but WB has stated it WILL NOT order anymore after this, and that's what is meant by the show being cancelled. Do people understand this?

Lance makes a good point. No one really knows what going on anymore. But i'll take Dina's word for it. She does work on the show you know...but hey someone else may have better 'intel' than I do...lol

Dina said they're making the show until the 13 is up, and then nothing. She says the same thing I'm saying.

DizzyOracle
11-23-2002, 04:55 PM
Did she ever say that they will stop production after the 13th ep? Because, i think, until they say so, the show still has a chance.

TheWraith
11-23-2002, 05:02 PM
She said WB hasn't ordered anymore episodes, which is self explanatory. That's exactly what Variety and The Hollywood Reporter reported last week - no episodes have been ordered after the 13, hence it being cancelled.

DizzyOracle
11-23-2002, 05:09 PM
Oh, ok, my bad. So the WB hasn't ordered. Maybe they will???

yeah if the ratings go up...There is hope my friends no matter what anyone says...

TheWraith

WB made the decision not to order last week. The ratings would have to go up into the area of the pilot for the studio to change their minds at this late stage, and that simply isn't possible.

Neptune's Rose
11-23-2002, 05:24 PM
I wonder when the WB will come out with another press release about how the shows are doing. Does anyone know when these usu. come out?

TheWraith
11-23-2002, 05:27 PM
Here's the press release WB sent to the LA convention:

On Tuesday, November 19 The WB announced that BIRDS OF PREY has ceased production. New episodes will run for another month and then the series will end.

Therefore, the stars of BIRDS OF PREY will not be making a convention appearance since there is no show to promote.

Two of the stars of BIRDS OF PREY were just confirmed to appear at the convention last week, so the ceasing of production on the series was totally unexpected and a shock.

On the same day of The WB's announcement the convention received 500 BIRDS OF PREY large sized posters that will still be given away in the morning starting with the reserved seat ticket purchasers. If any posters are left they will be distributed to regular ticket purchasers. It is a great looking poster!!!

There's no set time when they're released, they just are when the studio wants to.

DizzyOracle
11-23-2002, 05:54 PM
So are you saying that BoP is cancelled after its 13 ep run and that none of the actors, well, really Dina, knows about the show's cancellation?

TheWraith
11-23-2002, 06:08 PM
She does know, she said no more episodes have been ordered.

Neptune's Rose
11-23-2002, 06:09 PM
I find that hard to believe i really do.

DizzyOracle
11-23-2002, 06:10 PM
Well, then, why didn't she say it has been cancelled?

TheWraith
11-23-2002, 06:11 PM
Because per se, it hasn't been. WB ordered 13 episodes to be made and aired last year, and that's exactly what it's getting. It isn't picking up its option for more, so it isn't being cancelled per se as simply no more episodes will be made. At the end of the day, it's the same end result though.

DizzyOracle
11-23-2002, 06:13 PM
Hmm, i hope this isn't the case. I'm gonna wait and see what Dina had to say on the stern show.

TheWraith
11-23-2002, 06:20 PM
Exactly what the reports say she said... she said the show hasn't been picked up for new episodes after the 13 are finished. So, the show will continue production until those 13 are finished, so she'll be working until February or so, and then it's over.

DizzyOracle
11-23-2002, 06:25 PM
So, the WB will never pick them up? From what i've read, the WB hasn't picked them up, not will never pick them up. I'm still trying to stay positive... or delusional.

TheWraith
11-23-2002, 06:27 PM
Well, WB decided last weekend not to pick those episodes up, as they are losing money big time on BoP, and money talks more than any fan can.

Neptune's Rose
11-23-2002, 06:38 PM
well i'm going to wait for the offiical notice of cancelation...
