A note to all you windows users, yes it's great to copy your pal's firewall software and antivirus and so on, but it wont be fun when a virus that software wont recognise hits your system. PLEASE buy the latest verison of firewall and anti-virus software and keep it regulary updated, it will minimise your chances of being hit by these type viruses.

Our network at work was hit last night, and the guys have been working non stop trying to recover stuff.

Folks an explanation, or more a rumor.

The Worm was rumored to be created by someone who once or still works for Microsoft. He had picked up a 'hole' in the 2000 and XP systems. He warned microsoft about it, but they apparently ignored them, so MS blaster was created to expose the vulnerablitity this hole represented. MS blaster is a worm, not a virus though. Those links Jag has provided are very valuable.

I know they give ya the steps in Windows, but here it is again.

Step 1 - Create a firewall for your internet connection. If it is already firewalled, good. To create one you go to, my network places, view network connections, and then right click on your internet connection, go to properties and then to advanced, select the box next to the firewall option.

Note: there is a way to prevent you system from resetting, consult the microsoft page.

Step 2 - downlaod the security patch. Once installed, reset your computer.

Step 3 - got to the symantec site and download fixtool.exe. This will remove the worm. Once done reset your computer again.

Your computer should be safe. If you dont want to use the infected computer to download, use another computer and place the patch and worm remover on a memory stick or cd and run them off there (which is what i did).
