View Full Version : Dead or Alive?

Is Carolyn Lance dead? I'm kind of torn on the idea myself. It seems impossible to believe that she escaped the building when it blew sky high. She was, after all, busy keeping Hawke's attention off of Dinah and Helena, and throwing the Canary Cry at him every chance she got.

And yet, superheroes often have a knack for surviving unsurviveable situations. Just when the bad guys start to gloat that the hero is dead-and the readers begin to get a little worried-then said hero leaps out of the shadows and tackles the bad guy.

And also, Hawke made it out of there alive. A bit of a crispy critter, yes, but he made it. After all the Black Canary lived through, is it truly her fate to die in an exploding building?

I agree. I think Black Canary got out alive - maybe a little worse for wear but alive. I am looking forward to seeing her come back in later episodes. I would love to know who the father of Dinah is.

*smirks* I have an idea about who Dinah's father could be, but I think I'll just wait and see...

*giggles* Well, all I really have to go on is the tones of Hawke and Carolyn's voices. It's just a feeling that I got when I was listening to them... the way Hawke said it... *shakes head*

Okay, maybe I got this figured out - while Carolyn was undercover as Hawke's paramour, she got pregnant with Dinah.

Too much thinking!!!! :)

Actually, I was thinking that it might have been Hawke's father. It was his words as well as his tone that popped the idea in my head.

HAWKE. Ah. It fills my soul with a profound inner peace to see you again, Canary.
CAROLYN. Since when do you have a soul, Hawke?
HAWKE. I found my soul the day my father left this earth.
CAROLYN. Really? Sounds more like you found the self-help section in a bookstore.
HAWKE. I watched my daddy suffer such torment after you betrayed him. I watched him lying there all alone in prison, his body broken like his spirit.

When he said that his father's spirit was broken, he could have just meant that B.C. had destroyed what his father had worked so hard to build. But from the tone, it seemed more... personal than that.

*shrugs* I could be completely off here. It was just a feeling I got from the scene.

I don't believe Caroline died. In reality, she could have, but it's a feeling I have that we have not heard the last of Caroline Lance.

I think that she survived that blast. I mean, even though you can hear the Cry going right before the blast, maybe the Canary Cry was able to repel some of the flames and give her a chance to escape. Because everyone thinks she's dead... she won't have to worry about the price on her head anymore.

I sincerely hope that the BoP writers aren't stupid enough to kill off the Black Canary!

AQ, your idea has merit. In fact, my mind is buzzing with those possibilities!

Now, we just have to wait to see if Carolyn Lance tries to contact Dinah. I'm sure if she's alive, that will be on her list of priorities!

I can imagine that she did survive, but it's always possible that she didn't. The writers might have killed her so that a new Black Canary could come into being.

This battle against evil is now personal for Dinah, just as it became for all the others.

For example:

--Batman was created by the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne.

--Robin/Nightwing was created by the death of John and Mary Grayson.

--Batgirl was created out of Barbara's determination not to let her father be framed by a corrupt cop. Batgirl later became Oracle after being shot by the Joker.

--Huntress was created by the death of Selina Kyle.

It seems that most of the superheroes we know are born from violence that they witness or some sort of terrible circumstances. Dinah could join that list by becoming the second Black Canary to avenge her mother's death.

Just as the Joker was Batman's arch nemesis, perhaps Al Hawke will become Dinah's. Of course, that could lead to her finding out about Reese, and since Huntress and Reese are slowly becoming friends... That could start a whole different mess. *grins*

I hope the writers of BoP are watching these chat rooms. We have the entire season mapped out for them!!! :)

If Carolyn survived (and I think that she did), she must have thought that Hawke died in the fire. Otherwise, there is no way that she would leave Dinah vulnerable since Hawke knows that Dinah is her daughter. Carolyn would know that Hawke would come after Dinah.

Thats precisely why they aren't really allowed to, because if they end up using our ideas we could sue them ;) Not that we would.

She might figure it out sooner or later, probably from watching the news that spoke of how Al Hawke almost died in a fire or something. So, if she did survive, she'll probably remain in the shadows, keeping Dinah hidden from Hawke's minions as best she could.

*grins* And personally, I wouldn't mind if they used a few of our ideas! By all means, let the writers have them! *laughs*

I bet she lived. If Hawke survived with bad burns, she must have survived too :) Specially as she started the fire in a way and seemed further away from the explosive stuff!

There's a good enough chance of her surviving. But she would probably be injured, which puts her out of the scene, or hiding, which has the same effect. So if she survived, we probably won't be seeing her for a while.
