Bale... was in a movie named "Equilibrium" It's a good movie... and lead me to think he'd do a good job a Batman. Let's face it no one will be as good as Michael Keaton. Now we just have to hope they get a good script... I believe it was that not the acting that killed the last two Batman movies... No Clooney wasn't great as Batman but you have to cut him some slack... I mean Batman smiling and cracking jokes?:shake: Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Has it finally been determained that this will be an earlier Batman, like a Batman Year One, rather than a continuation of the film franchise ??

Or is this going to be the sort of PRE Batman Batman movie.

There have been SO many conflicting reports, I've honestly lost track.

Red Mask ... the statues in the Bat films were all inspired from the Art Deco eras of the 1930's and 40's, so they do have thier basis in actual conceptual art ... and NONE of them had any privates sticking anywhere !!

Jackln, frost, and webmaster, I dont know who CHRISTANE Bale is so i really did'nt care about the guys name spelling or crap like that. I was too much into giving ya'll the news. So SKREW his name,:rotfl: we finally have a new batman.

Bcool, i agree with you all the way on your batman 3 & 4 script theroy, and your right about the smiling thing but, Batman does crack jokes. He's note a chris rock but hey. I mean look at all his T.V series. Batman: tas, Batman/ superman adventures, and JLA. They all have batman spitting off a few side jokes here and there every other episode. Especialy the latest JLA episode "Twilight" when they went after brainiac. Batman basically TOOK flash's role from him.

For those of you who are not familiar with the work of CHRISTIAN BALE I suggestyou check out his IMDb file. I think he has the right fit for BATMAN ( he is classy ) and will be 30 in January, which seems to give WB the young Bruce Wayne they want. CB is a very accomplished actor with a strong list of credits. I tip my hat to him.

Oh by the way Batman'sCOUSIN - You should be more attentive about the spelling of a person's name, even if you are in a hurry. Also I know the majority of actor's would be put out at the term "SKREW his name". Remember, our name's are very important. It's our identity.

Actually...they kind of went overboard. Yes, it is concievable that Gotham would have roots in that type of style, but most of the city was engineered before that time in the Gothic period. In the bat-films, every turn you took there would be MANY humungous statues which borders on unreasonable...especially when the Batmobile drives on them. ;)

gl2813 - Michael - WB is casting BATMAN in London where it will be shot. My Agents are looking into the possibility of a meeting for me re ALFRED. But the reality is that BATMAN is playing younger (than usual) this time around, so the fact is that ALFRED will be played around "50ish" - Though there are days I wish I could play 50 again, we are talking about 'today's world' - Also, I am domiciled here in LA, and there are SO MANY actors in England who could fit the bill. I am not in the least bit envious, it's the way of the world. Plus the fact that WB FILM and WB TV do not really coexist artistically side by side. Ho Hum

Michael Gough to become a 50 year old Gentleman would need a really big make up session (not impossible) and althought I love his alfred except for the lack of the mustache (I'm very purist in what to comics concerns) but it would be easier to find someone in his early 50's to play Alfred.
Ian I can also see you as Al but you would also need some work and it's usually easier to make years than to take them sad but true to all of us.

GoldFlyingMouse - Good to hear from you again. I have met CB twice, first when I was up for a role in "Newsies", he was about 15 (I think), then again at an award benefit honoring Steven Spielberg that was in 2002. He had grown to be quite an assured young man, very personable and quite the magnet for the gals (young and old). His entree into films via "Empire of the Sun" resonated with me because of the character during WWII. I would have to say so far, for me, his best and most impressive role has to be "American Psycho". I believe he has a fine career ahead of him. Cheers.

I agree. Plus he is the first actor I've seen to actually fit the body type for Bruce Wayne. Not that I'm in to him or anything but, the chainsaw scene in "American Psycho" shows that he is in pretty good shape. I also think "Rein of Fire" showed that he can be the heroe that Batman has become over the years. I could also see him as Superman but, I guess whoever is in charge of that movie missed out on the right guy for the job.

I read what they said about this one compared to the last two. I almost pissed myself laughing. How hard is it to make a movie scarier than the last two Bat-films. The first one had a deadlier villan than the last two, although it's kind of sad that Two Face wasn't as ruthless and psychotic as he could have been. Anyway, I'm still loking forward to this movie. I would have preferred you received the role instead. You are one of the reasons I like "Birds of Prey". Also, despite my respect for Michael Caine's ability, I can't get his anti-hero role of "Jack Carter" out of my head. An Alfred who might be carrying a switchblade? Inconceivable!

"Get Carter" is one of the most definitive anti-hero films I've ever seen. Michael Caine did that role so well. I've seen his other films after that so I don't doubt his versatitlity. But if his Alfred suddenly starts doing his own action stunts I'll shout "Jack's back in town!". Or else he's been taking tips from Norman of "Big-O".

GL2814

What about his Oscar winning role in "The Cider House Rules" or the part he played in "Mr. Destiny"? Those two roles prove that he would make a decent Alfred. He's a very versitile actor and he's played somany different parts that you can't judge him by one. Besides, I think it's great that an Oscar winning actor will be in this Batman movie. It worked for other Batfilms.

Now they want Viggo Mortensen:

Mortensen Up For Batman?

Michael Caine, who will play Alfred the butler in the upcoming new Batman film, told SCI FI Wire that director Christopher Nolan is eyeing Lord of the Rings star Viggo Mortensen to play the villain in the film, which is slated to begin production in April 2004. In an interview, Caine wouldn't specify which villain role Mortensen (Rings' Aragorn) is up for.

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter, meanwhile, that Katie Holmes is close to being cast opposite star Christian Bale as Rachel, the love interest, contingent on a screen test.

Caine said Nolan's Batman script creates a deeper role for Alfred than previous films. "We start when Batman is a baby, so I'm more like a father," Caine said in an interview. "I'm a father who knows how to lay a table with the knives and forks in the right places."

Caine said he spoke with Nolan for three hours about his vision for the film, which included some similarities with and some variations on the previously established Batman canon. "[Nolan] said, 'We're going to have a human hero in Batman. He's powerful because he does pushups. Where does he get all his weapons? Because he's a multibillionaire, and he's in the arms business, so he gets the secret weapons instantly. Why does he wear the bloody suit? To scare the s--t out of people, because he doesn't really want to fight.'"

A Batman who doesn't like to fight?

Strange ... it didn't seem to bother him in the other four films.

This'll have the fanboys s****ing bricks for sure. :(

How is he supposed to fight crime if he can't stomach a fight? ("Hello, Joker ... I can see you have issues.")

I have to add to what Frostbite said about the fighting subject. Batman has been reluctant to fight in the past but, maybe not in comics.

28 Days Later star Cillian Murphy has landed the role of one of the Caped Crusader's villains in the upcoming fifth installment of Warner Brothers' Batman movie franchise, Variety reported. The Irish actor would become the fourth actor cast in the Christopher Nolan-helmed project, which stars Christian Bale in the title role.

Michael Caine has also joined the cast to play Batman's butler, Alfred, and producers are eyeing Katie Holmes to play the female lead, subject to a screen test with Nolan, the trade paper reported.

Blade writer David Goyer wrote the script, which is being kept tightly under wraps. Nolan is gearing up for a 2004 start date and a 2005 release

Re Cillian Murphy - He is also in "The Girl with a Pearl Earring" playing Scarlett Johansson's would be boyfriend. Also, he has a very small part in "Cold Mountain" as a union soldier who is ordered to strip by Jude Law. It is such a small role, that at first I didn't recognize him. As to playing a BATMAN villian (as we know them), well........... we'll see.

Well, Cesar Romero didn't seem like he'd fit as the Joker and he did a great job with the role. Although from what I've seen, Cillian Murphy is no Cesar Romero.

strait from SHH!

There's two villains. There's one love interest. There's a young Comm. Gordon. There's a young Harvey Dent.

The cast are Christian Bale [Batman], Michael Caine [Alfred], Judson Caspian [Viggo Mortensen], Cillian Murphy [Harvey Dent], Katie Holmes [Rachel Caspian], Chris Cooper [Gordon], Elle Fanning [Barbara], Noah Emmerich, as of 11/29/03

They apparently are still finalising the two main villain roles, but everyone from Robert De Niro to Dennis Quaid has tried out, and they should have their man-times two, in a week or two.

plz don't belive this,I think it is false.

SHH! scoop

A Superhero Hype! source - who shall be called 'Enigma' - has confirmed that filming will indeed take place in Iceland. As you may have read here, the Warner Bros. production will shoot there for two weeks. What was not revealed was what will be filmed. We've got the exclusive scoop for you, but it's definitely spoiler material, so cover your eyes now if you'd rather not know...

Still here? Of course you are. In the scene, Batman, played by Christian Bale, will be fighting on ice with Ra's Al Ghul's #1 pupil (who that is, you'll have to figure out). They won't be fighting for real, however, as it is more of a training exercise.

We're also told by our source that Batman: Intimidation is a cross between Year One and Year Two and that it's interwoven very creatively. So start thinking about which characters appeared in each and you might get an idea. The film is also said to be very story-driven.

Of course you want to hear about the costume. Let's just say that the costume concept the production is using is awesome! Just wait and see...

please where it says here in the first paragraph ignore it. I copied and pasted and that was a link on the original page

Fifth Film Is Batman Begins

Warner Brothers will call its upcoming fifth caped crusader movie Batman Begins, not Batman: Intimidation Game, as has been widely rumored, Variety reported. The fifth installment in the franchise returns the story to its origins, about billionaire Bruce Wayne and how he puts on the cowl and cape to face his first foes in Gotham City, the trade paper reported.

The studio has been using the title Intimidation Game as a code name to thwart fans from following the project's development, but never intended on using it as the film's title, the trade paper reported. Batman Begins, starring Christian Bale, starts shooting next month in Iceland and London, with Christopher Nolan at the helm.

"Intimidation Game" was just as dubious. It made it sound like some Tom Clancy novel.

Anyway, Morgan Freeman's role has been clarified as he'll be cast as Lucius Fox, the guy who keeps Bruce Wayne rich and away from a desk job. I'm glad this character is in the film!

Gary Oldman has signed on to play James Gordon:

http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/art-main.html?2004-03/04/11.00.film

Oldman Batman's Gordon

Gary Oldman has signed on to play Lt. James Gordon in Batman Begins, according to Variety. Production on the Christopher Nolan (Memento) film has started in Iceland.

Gordon is a detective on the Gotham police force, according to the trade paper, which described Batman Begins as exploring the origins of the Caped Crusader legend. Oldman, whose genre credits include Bram Stoker's Dracula, Lost in Space and the upcoming Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, joins a star-studded cast that already includes Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred, Katie Holmes as Wayne's childhood friend Rachel, Liam Neeson as Wayne's mentor, Morgan Freeman as a former Wayne Enterprises board member and Ken Watanabe as the villain, Ra's Al Ghul. Warner Brothers will release Batman Begins in summer 2005.

Watanabe was just nominated for an Oscar for The Last Samurai.

No shortage of talent on this project, that's for sure. :)

Well, that car can reach 100 mph (the batmobile in "Batman" could only reach 30 mph), jump and how they say "turn on a dime". There's going to be a big sequence with this tumbler who everybody who read the script said it's going to be awsome and they will make everthing with the real car, not CGI. So I really think this car is very pratical (spell?) and I liked a lot. At first it was weired because it's not what we used to see, but after looking a few times I thought it was great.

Edit: In the Superhero hype there was a link to a big review of the script, where they say waht's going to happen on the first 20 minutes of the movie, and there was where they said that is going to be called The Tumbler.

ok I finally read this thread and took a look at the batmobile.......as a designer these are my thoughts

the original batmobile was a joke because it wasn't practical...so modeling it after a tank is actually more appropriate

the positioning, size and tread of the wheels in front are for speed and handling...the big wheels in back for abuse from all the crazy stunts they always make the batmobile do.....there is a turbo boost on the back so it's obvious it'll go fast....

so it's big and ugly...oh well...he's supposed to be chasing people and blowing things up...not modeling for gq.....this is actually the most believable vehicle they've made for the impossible stunts the car is supposed to be capable of.

Fresh from Empire magazine

"THANK THE LORD, there are no nipples. And the codpiece the size of a small car? Mercifully gone. In fact, apart from the barest hint of yello on the utility belt, The Dark Knight has well and truly returned. Certainly, Chris Nolan's (dir) vision of the Caped Crusader is one to get excited about. First theres the cast: Christian Bale the pitch-perfect brooding Bats and Bruce Wayne; Ken Watanabe his nemesis, the immortal Ra's Al Ghul (reports suggest that all his dailogue is Japanese); Gary Oldman as (at this point) Lieutenant Gordon; Morgan Freeman as shadowy mobster Lucius Fox; Liam Neeson as Wayne's mentor, Henri Ducard, and Michael Caine as Wayne's butler, Alfred.
Then theres the story, written by the best comic book movie scribe around: Blade's David Goyer. Very much a prequel, with elements of Frank Miller's Batman: Year One, this takes Batman back to his roots - dark, unforgiven, unforgiving. And finally, there's Nolan's declaration that he's setting this in the real world- hence the souped-up Batmobile glimpsed on the movie's official site, and the bulk, armoured look for the Dark Knight that Bale is sporting, granite chin and all.
"The whole concept of this Batman is that is will be very different from the other Batmans, because its going to be much more reality-based" says producer Charles Roven. "Everything - the plane, the car, the cape - has a real, scientific, practical reason for being and for using, and youre going, 'Gee that could happen today'"

'Xactly, Frosty.

Even if the script/movie is good, that doesn't mean that they can screw with the characters. :shake:

Vox .. Ras is central Eurpeon not oriental, much less has his dialogue ever been written or translated from the Japaneese.

Lucius has never been a "shadowy mobster"

David Goyer the "best comic scribe" .. PLEEEEEEZE he isn't even close to being in the top 10.

************************************************

Frosty I totally agree with you, since they can't mess up Batman, lets mess up everyone else.

First off, How do you think they'll screw up with the cast Frostbite? And I never said anything about Japeneese or otherwise. I was correcting someone else who said that as well as said Fox was a mobster. If you had acsess to the script, you'd see the supporting cast is done very well. Not overkill and stupidity like the last few movies.

Also, I never said anything about Goyer. And how do you guys think the supporting cast is being screwed with?

Vox, you didn't say it directly .. it was the magazine article you were quoteing that did.

The supporting cast is being screwed with because they are altering the histories of the charactors to fit into the script of the movie rather than to just write the script around the extablished history of the charactors. That's whats messed up all the previous DC Movies.

I understand, but since this is the norm, I still think that this will be better than most Bat flics. Supporting cast and all.

That's the point, everyone just accepts this as "the norm" we've become so desensatized to CRAP that most have com to accept it without question, they shouldn't, I know I don't, which is why I'm such an outspoken advocate against CW and other projects that don't follow the source matierals.

Simple, do what I'm doing with Catwoman, refuse to go and see it, the only way to hurt these guys is in the pocket book, after enough flops they will either wise up or go out of business, in either event it isn't a big loss.

PS .. we should start a new thread since this one is over 200.

PPS ... NEW THREAD .. Batman Beginings - Part 2 !!!

I hear what you say about the "norm", but I honestly feel that despite this, these charectors are going to be good. If ya think about it, they messed up all the villans. But this time it's goin' to be alright.
