I lost my dog today, he died of old age. He was a black Great Dane, about eight and a half. He had been eating less, and could hardly go for walks anymore. We had a vet appointment for thur, he just couldn't hold out till then.
So I thought I would ask about everyones pet, stories how you delt with their deaths, any fun stories with new (or old) pets.

We already have a thread on this from previous:
http://www.birdsofpreyonline.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2333&highlight=pets
I will close that other one since it is so old already.
My cat Minou died and I have a tattoo of him on my arm 1988-1994 but I don't like to talk about it - it still makes me cry.

I've only had one pet death experience.
Freddie, I knew you for so little time. I love you for eternity.
Freddie the Frog. I caught him in the Oklahoma wild. Brought him home, and enjoyed his company for over a year. He stopped eating, and the day I tried to feed him again he (I'm sorry) was shriveled into a ball. I cried for weeks on end. We buried him in a plastic box in my back yard.
~~~~~~~~~~~
After Freddie died, I had to get my mind of of it. I bought a Leopard Gecko. Andy is still with me today, after 3 years.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Before Freddie died, we got a beagle. It was right after my grandparents died...I guess my parents felt sorry for me. Bailey Blue, now 4 years old, is my favorite thing in the entire world. I love him to death.

I had a cat, when I was around six. She was pure black, and was the friendliest thing you'd ever met. She loved to sleep in warm places, and normally that would be the dryer. Sadly, one time (luckily while I was at school) my mother didn't know she was in there. That ends that story.

I my dog Shadow will be gone one year this Thanksgiving. He was a Border Terrier. I lost him to a combination of old age and diabetes. He was 14 1/2 years old. I miss him dearly and still cry when I think of him.
But I love remembering all the silly things he did like when he was a puppy he got his head stuck in the fence. He also defeathered his sleeping pillow so when I came home from work there were feathers everywhere. He use to lay on the hump of the paddleboat looking like a hood ornament. Shadowpup as I called him will always remain in my heart.

My cat died today.
It's so strange. Our ginger cat wouldn't keep quiet. And then our neighbour rang our gate bell and...
It looks like he was hit by a car in the early morning.
He was my cat, the black and white one in the pictures i posted. I named him Obi Wann Kenobi. He had this black spot on his nose. The first time my mom saw him she thought it was dirt and tried to wipe it off.
He had the most stunning ermerald green eyes.

I can't read this thread because memories of my own cat just tears me up and reading everyone else's will make me bawl again but I did want to tell everyone that I'm very sorry for the loss of your pets, past and present. I know full well how much it hurts because they are a part of the family.
Just wanted to pass on my condolances.

I've only had one pet death that happened almost a year ago. Her name was Harley, she was only a year old, she died five days before it would be a year since we got her. She had a problem of staying inside the yard when me and my sister were at school, one day, early in the morning, almost 10AM, she got out of the fence, my mom was chasing her down when she got hit. :weep: :weep: :weep: tore me up inside, in May we got another dog who looks exactly like Harley except with longer hair. I love Abby (new dog) dearly but she will never be a replacement for Harley.

I have seven pets at the moment;
3 cats (Loxey, Fee-Fee, and Alberta -- yes, like Cananda--)
2 dogs (Dutches; palmeranian, Jenkins; Mut that's 97 pounds and thinks he's as little as Dutches)
2 birds (Bobera 'Bob', Pint; Cockiteals)
Our family always seems to have cats in threes, and we're on numbers 8, 9, and 10 now. I've lived through 6 cat deaths in my life, and i've loved them all. Marble, Magic, Glove, Kit-Kit, LeRoy, and Terra. they all died of old age, so terrible accidents to speak of.
My father has always hated animals, and the first one he's ever warmed up to is the last one we'll ever have; Jenkins our GIGANIMOUS Idiot-Pup..... of all the things he had to like . . . .
Loxey is *MY* cat, he and i are inseparable, and he's given me more than a few scares as he and i both seem to be very accident prone. He's broke all the toes in his foot and needed a Kitty-Kast for it, he's gotten an 11-inch blade of grass stuck up his noes for 2 weeks, he ate a sock that had to be removed from his intestines, and he took a trip in our spin-dryer because he likes to burrow into laundry baskits. . . . . but i love him.
Pets really become family, and when we lose them we miss them as much as the people we've lost, but we don't like to show it because they're not human and people don't think they should be that attached . . . but we are. they're our friends. we do miss them.

I've had four pets in my entire life
(Black Lab) Blackie she was old near 18-20 in human years. She lived with my dad and my uncles and aunt. She loved food, and smoothering, every cat that came into the yard like her puppy. She was put to sleep, she had a lot of pain my grandparents said they didn't want to see her suffer.
(Dauchsand) Hans, died in his sleep he was just as old as Blackie he, loved to sleep I always found him under the benches and the car sleeping. He was scared of cats.
Tahoe was my cat he died at the age of 3, he was an out door cat. My dad said he died of a broken heart, I moved away leaving him with my step mom, I came over when I could but he missed me and I guess he went away in his sleep. He did have four kittens though, Daffy,Clarence,Huntress,Oracle. All but died, My step mom didnt take care of them I was mad at her, but i forgave her later but still, i miss them.
My other dog Liberty she was a fox hound, alasken husky mix, she is now 2 years old in human years I gave her away I couldnt take her with me. A man on a farm need her, then he said he sold her off to the army to sniff out bombs. So she is happy running around. I still miss her though.

Let's see, I have had 50 Gerbils, 14 Fish, 1 Parakeet, 2 Dogs, 1 Cat, and a Minow.... :hmm:
I only have a Dog (Ruby - the one true love of my life), and a Parakeet (Tweeter). The fish never lived more than a week... my parents were kind of lame and didn't know how to take care of them. As for the gerbils... well... I got one for my birthday (Scrap) and then another when my 3rd grade teacher was giving them away (Snap). They bred, and bred, and bred.... and it lead to more than 40 or 50 gerbils... :hmm: :shake: I ended up having to give all of them to the Human Society except for Scrap who lived to the tender age of 6.
Now, my other dog was another I loved very much, but we had to give her up to a farm because we couldn't handle 2 dogs.... :weep:
Finally for the minow... well it was actually fishing bait gone wrong :D. We got I think about 40 minows for fishing, but when we came home, we still had some, and being the sensitive kid I was (and still am), I couldn't stand to leave them and let them die. :rolleyes: Now, I started feeding them crackers, and after a day or two they started dying, but then a week later there was 1. Just 1 that hadn't expired...... and I kept feeding it.... 2 weeks.... still.... I think it continued for about 2 months... which is QUITE the life for a minow. Scarily it didn't die of starvation or natural causes at all.... it simply jumped out of its foam container and dried on the floor.

When I was how old like many years ago, we use to have rabbits one was a male and female and the female named Thumper gave birth to a baby rabbit during the cold winter, sadly the baby died and then like in the summer we gave them away cuz it was getting too hott.
Now, my sister owns a kitten named Patches, and sadly her mother, my sister's b/f cat got hit by a car, I just found out now...:weep: I feel really bad cuz that cat been through a lot cuz of bad pregency, costing a lives of two newborn kittens and she also kinda died too....
