Some of you guys may have heard about Mel Gibson's controversial film. Well I just read about a strange incident on the set. What do you make of it? Publicity stunt or somethin else?

I say stop production. So far that actor has been struck once and the producer has been hit two times. Thats not a message thats a scream to end it. I truely believe in signs and that one reads like a billboard!

Production on the film is finished, I heard on Howard Stern this morning that no studio will distributie it though, so he is going to put it out there himself. I hvae a funny feeling that this movie will spell the end of his career, cause its going to piss off alot of people.

Hmm... How would the movie piss people off... I don't think
it'll be the end of him... movie gores have short memories. Also
John Travolta did something similar with his movie Battle Field Earth which bombed big time... and not only his he still fine I hear he's actually thinking about making another one.

BCool .. Battlefield Earth while being a bomb didn't deal with the last 12 hours of Christ's life, most sci-fi genre movies aren't even taken seriously in the first place, as is proven by the fact that no sci-fi movie has ever been nominated for a best picture award. (well unless you count Lord of the Rings) Since Mel's views on the subject of religion border on the fanatical (though he has always kept that subject on the QT) this movie is loaded with controversy, which is why no studio wants to take resposibilty for distributing it, they don't want to open themselves up to the backlash.

While I agree that some movie goers might have short memories, the people that will likely go see this movie don't, religion is a VERY touchy subject which is why you don't see very many productions on the subject ... just look at what happened with "The Last Temptation of Christ" for example.

Finally, this is Mel's movie from start to finish, so it will be solely him that will be held resposible for its content, while Travolta supported B.E. me most certainly didn't write, direct or produce it .. big difference. The fact that SO many people have been opposed to this project from the start should tell you that its going to raise problems, no studio wants to deal with an actor or actress thats got that amount of baggage to carry. And finally Mel's movies have been grossing less and less every year, he isn't the name he once was anymore, which is why I think he feels justified in taking this all or nothing gamble.

This movie could serve to be his vindication or his epitaph, we will all have to wait and see which one it turns out to be.

I do agree with you on a few of those. But from what I've read Gibson stuck pretty close to the bible with this and while I know religion is a touchy subject that doesn't mean it shouldn't be explored. There have been lots of movies that have been about touchy subjects... like Bound for instance... Hollywood has proven again and again just because something is taboo it's not "hands off" Of cores religion is a bit different but as you said it could either be well received or be one of the biggest mistakes in cinematic history... time will tell

Your compairing apples to oranges (no insult intended) Bound had the titilation factor of Gina and Jennifer, so even if it was really about murder and manipulation it had something in it to appeal to a larger audience.

In so far as this movie goes, Mel stuck to HIS interpretation of the Bible which is alot more orthodox than "mainstream" religious beliefs of today, thats why I brought up "The Last Temptation of Christ" .. that was the last religiously based project that I can remember which caused such contoversy.

I agree that it should be explored, but I would be happier with more unbiased source than Gibson. Its just my personal opinion, but I find that I usually tend to appreciate and incorporate points of view from people, organizations or sources in general that aren't knee deep in the subject matter, their prospectives are sometimes just as if not more illuminting.
