Did anyone else happen to catch the first part of the Battlestar Galactica mini-series on Sci-fi last night ??
I have to say after all I heard about it, I was under the impression it was going to suck BIG TIME, but truth to tell it really wasn't all that bad at all. The concept was a bit different, but the story was good and the special effects were great !!

I taped it but, when I tried to watch it the damn tape was bad. Luckily it will be replayed tonight before the second part.
The only things that bugged me (from what I could make out) were that some of the back grounds and a few other things looked like the current Star Wars movies. Other than that, I'm pretty much in anticipation to see it as if it hadden't aired yet.

Well, I have to say that I wathced it with my brother with much trepidation. I knew it's supposed to be based on the books Richard Hatch (the original Apollo) wrote and that there were alot of changes. But I actually found it interesting enough to tape tonights episode. So far, there are major differences, but I find it worthwhile viewing.

Welll taking into consideration that Star Wars STOLE alot from movies like Metropolis and even the Jetsons for thier scenes, you can hardly call SW original either.

To be honest with you, I didn't see anything that paralleled the new Star Wars movies.

Well it was just little things that tomorrow I can point out a little better, but Jesse is right about SW not being ass original as some may think. Then again, what hasn't been done already as far as Sci- Fi goes?

MUZ .. I think what GL was mentioning were some of the scenes on Caprica with the flying cars and such.
GL .. good point, there is actually nothign I can think of that hasn't been done already in one form or another.

Ah Jessie I knew I could count on you to get the ball rolling!
As a long time Galactica fan I watched with an open mind.. I knew it would be different. I have to say...I FREAKIN LOVED IT!!!!!
A bit different, but showed enough respect to the old show that should keep all those old Galactica fans happy. great story. I loved the Cylons at the beginning. Still with the glowing eye. The old BaseStar and Cylon Centurion in the museum were kick ass. The using the old Vipers were amazing. Nice to see Adama kick some Cylon ass also. I like the idea of the 12 cylon models. did you notice most stuff still revolves around 12
12 cylon models
12 lives for each model
12 colonies
They even said...FRAK..LOL
And I got it on VHS if anyone missed it. Even though it's on 4 hours straight on Sunday.....
One thing I didn't know was that Cylons were that horney..:rotfl: Nice effect with her spine lighting up.

12 models huh ?
9 were in the space station 3, 3, and 3
1 Boomer on the Station
1 Boomer on Galatica
So where's the twelth ???
Could it be maybe ...............................BOXY !!!!

It could be that device that Baltar didn't really know anything about.

Let's not forget the one that finally showed up at the peace conference in the beginning of the movie and was destroyed along with the colonies' representative, spreading her conciousness to yet another.
Jesse321
12-12-2003, 10:35 AM
Yeah but there were 3 of her already in the space station, as well as 3 of the one that Adama killed, and it would make no sense to have 2 Boomers on Galactica, so the 12th model is likely differnt one all together.
GL .. that was some sort of transmitter / tracking device, thought it was of Cylon design it wasn't a Cylon per say. (At least I didn't get that impression)

I gotta go watch those parts again where she mentions 12. Itook it as there were 12 of her body which her consciousness could be transfered to. And 12 different models. The silver metal one(tin can) at the beginning, the blonde, the gun runner, show producer, Boomer. Thats 5. That gives room for more sleeper agents.( I really like that idea..people who don't even know they are cylons!!!) With a few more models could we possibly see an appearance of Dirk benedict or Richard Hatch from the original...Or maybe Maren Jensen!!!!!God I was so in Love with her in my ...Younger days! :p

It wasn't mentioned Doc ... near the very end of part 2, Adama received an anonymous note saying there are "12 models" of the Cyclon humanoids.
Remember that episode of Star Trek where the crew found Harry Mudd on that planet inhabited by androids and there were only 2 or 3 versions of each one .. its something like that.
Marion Jenson ... Athena ... now there was one VERY good looking lady.

I saw the note Jessie. But in the first half when the blonde is talking to Baltar before the bombs blow out the window she says she can't die that the body she inhabits is # 5 or 6 and her consciousness will just go into the Next number. Thats why I thought 12 models and 12 of each model. I really gotta watch it again.
And Maren Jensen... I always went for the brunette. My brother liked Lauretta Spange. Too bad she up and quit Hollywood. i remember that one Hawaii shark movie and that was it from her.
Did anyone here they are supposed to do a Galactica cartoon with some of the original voices? Benedict, Hatch etc....

FROM AIN'T IT COOL . COM
Well, SciFi hasn’t yet formally kicked “Battlestar Galactica” over from miniseries to series status, but the miniseries’ Tuesday finale improved on its Monday debut, scoring the channel’s best ratings for 2003, and the third-best ratings in the channel’s history. (If you missed it SciFi is repeating all four hours Sunday afternoon.)
Good news for fans of the show !!

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (Sci Fi) - David Eick has exited his post as executive VP of USA Cable Entertainment to become a co-executive producer on the upcoming Sci Fi series. Eick was involved in the development of the four-hour mini-series that serves as the basis for the new series. He'll share executive producing duties with showrunner Ron Moore. Production is set to begin by month's end on the show's 13-episode order, which is budgeted at $1.8 million per episode.
$1.8-million ... that's gettin' up there.
It's the most I've ever seen Skiffy spend on a show (IIRC, SG-1 is the current record holder at $1.4-million/ep.)

KICK ASS !!! I am SO all over this !!!
I'm really glad that Skiffy is putting in the gamble on BG, if they keep the quality to the level of the mini-series they will have a hit on thier hands !!
They should consider releasing the Mini Series right now to help defray some of the cost of producing the 13 episodes.

Here is something for all galactica fans...
Seems with the renewed interest in the old show and the hit mini series Skiffy has put together a certain toy company will be releasing 12" Galactica action figures(original series)..Apollo, Starbuck, and Adama are the first wave...a silver and gold Cylon Centurion are the second so far...Add an Athena, Boomer, and Col Tighe and I am in Galactica heaven....I'll find the company and post the link soon!
