In Zap2it's wort of TV in 2003, they mention birds of prey and compare it to tarzan

Quote:
Here's a thought for The WB: When you decide to develop a high-concept show like "Tarzan," you should, you know, figure out what the concept is before you go to series. At first, the network called the series "Tarzan and Jane" and said it would be as much (if not more) about her as him. By the summer, it was just "Tarzan," and it was an action-adventure franchise about a jungle-raised man transplanted to the urban jungle.

Then it hit the airwaves, and it wasn't much of anything, charting a similar course to "Birds of Prey" last season.

The failure of "Tarzan" is especially puzzling given that another high-concept show, "Smallville," has been a big success for the network. You can learn from success as well as failure, you know.

In an article about "Tarzan"'s cancellation, the site said

quote:
Despite the successes of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Smallville," The WB's strategy of aiming for franchise hits has yielded decidedly disappointing results in recent years. The network's attempt to spin a series out of "The Lone Ranger" produced only a poorly received telefilm, while "Birds of Prey" remained on the roost for only 12 episodes.

These people have no idea what they're talking about.

For starters, BOP had 13 eps.

I think that they meant 12 episodes following the Pilot.

The real reason the show got cancelled is because no one was working together on it. The writers, the actors, the producers and especially the WB execs. I think they were hoping something would take off and then they would get involved. Actually it seems like they never really believed in the show.

WJT - I truly hope you don't believe "the real reason the show got cancelled is because no one was working together on it" was because of 'THE ACTORS'. To include us in that line-up is a smack in the face. WE WORKED BLOODY HARD TO MAKE IT WORK - Yes there were issues on many levels but to put us into that bunch is not quite on.

i don't think the actors had anything to do with the cancellation ,noway .they have no control over anything behind bop!!if anything they got screwed and so did the fans!!

^ I agree ... fans and cast are pretty much in the same boat. :(

I doubt that WJT intended to put the cast in the same Rogue's Gallery as Levin and The WB.

Levin must gave more trust to BOP, is the show that better rattings had been. Tarzan and that Black I dunno what were a disaster... :fume:

What I meant was there was no communication going on. And I lay all the blame for that at the WB execs door. After all they were in charge of the show.

It seems to me that there were many things which contributed to BOPs untimely demise. But it still apears that the WB should have more faith in some of it's programing. No BOP didn't do exataly as well as Smallville or Buffy but it was holding it's own aganst some tough comption. If the WB is going to junk every new show because it doesn't "become the next Smallville" in it's first few weeks of episodes I think they'll be lossing alot more.

The actors/actresses executed perfectly, it was a miriad of other other issues not acting that was responsible for the demise of the show. Those people had great chemistry and it showed on screen, you can't fake that!!

The actors can only do so much with what they are given to work with, and as far as I'm concerned they ALL did a GREAT job.

The WB has the attitude, these days, that if its not an instant hit its not worth keeping which is going to cost them ALOT of viewers since no one will get attached to the shows for fear of them being axed prematurely ... I know I made that mistake with Tarzan and I won't be making it again this season. As far as I'm concerned the only shows that I will be watching on the WB are Everwood and Smallville.

I'm going to be a pain in the ass and say that in all technicallities, Devil's Eyes never aired the intro or the credits, therefore Feat of Clay and Devil's Eyes were 1 II-Part episode. :)
