Much like the SMALLVILLE comic, that was released early this month, DC comics is helming an TV comic spin-off, which should be released sometime in 2003.

What would be the point? The show is cancelled.

depends how far along DC is with it, but if the show is canned, it wouldn't surprise me if the comic is canned too...
I hope not. I really want to read it now!

It would be nice to see at least something to remember the show by. THE FLASH, the late 1980s or early 1990s TV series had a special edition comic book, that had much the same effect as the SMALLVILLE comic was still produced, even though the show was cancelled after the season finale.

FrostBite, because the same fanbase which might make the TV show non-viable are still *perfectly* viable for a comic book.
If the interest is there, they'll do it.
Personally I might bu one and see what it's like. I'll see.

Last time I asked, Gail Simone said the comic was still a go (she is the writer).

We seem to have completed a cycle ...
From the comics ... to TV .. and back to the comics again. :)
dIna_rEyes that would be great! I really would read those. Hope its still in the works.

Since the last time I talked to her (through a messageboard) she hasn't said anything else about it. So I'm taking that as a good thing. She would tell us if it was to be cancelled. (there is a confusing post after mine but it is not from her)

I read in Wizard that the project was canceled due to the show being cancled. I'm totally bummed about it too.

I asked the owner of my Comic books Store .... Tate of Tate's Comics here in Sunrise FL (hehehe shameless plug for Tate I know) and he confirmed the Wizard story ... to the best of his knowledge the book has been canceled.

I have sense been corrected...
Birds of Prey I'm hoping will be huge. It's going to be great fun, with some serious elements and good comedy, hopefully. And I start on #57, thanks for asking!
Gail
So she isn't writing the adaption from the tv show :( What got me is in another thread were we were talking to her she mentioned it being influenced by the tv show. Maybe this just means Huntress will become a regular member *shrug*.

I wouldn't want Huntress to be a regular member. That would be even worse. Each appearance by Helena Bertinelli detracts from the continuity of Helena Kyle.

There is no Helena Kyle in DC continuty anymore ... she was wiped out of existance after Crisis on Infinate Earths.
The only Huntress in the books right now is Helena Bertinelli, whom I like just as much if not more tha the original Helena Kyle version.

Duh. I'm just saying it's harder to place the show into continuity if the Huntress from the comics keeps on appearing.

I don't think there ever was any plan to make the show into comic contiunety. I know about the tv adaptaion project but from what i understand it that it was basically considered an Elseworlds project much like the Smallville comic. So even if the show was a success I'm not sure what difference it would have made in mainstream comics.
Also the current Huntress will be making more frequent appearences in both Batman and Birds of Prey comics. There is even talk of Jim Lee and Joesph Loeb doing a Huntress maxi-series floating around (still rumors nothing solid)

I know that. I'm just the type of person that has to has this huge amount of continuity for everything. I know that Birds of Prey isn't actually part of continuity, but if you just snip some things here and there, it can be.

LOL ... its funny Frostbite you just made the same arguement in reverse that most hardcore DC fans have been making since the show started.
They in turn hate the snips here and the snips there the show made. LOL ... go figure.

I've always hoped that they would actually bring back BoP: the series in some way. What better way then this?
