Upgraded Software and Template Changes

We have spent many hours today working with the hosting company to upgrade our software. Right now, the Forum will look a bit different to everyone. We are going to work with Ted and Matt to hopefully bring back the "BoPness of it". It may take a little time but we should be able to regain it.

However, the posts should all be there.

For those of you that are not aware, all the changes that I have been making have been only to the NEW GOTHAM template. I chose that one first because I like it best. :D

If you would like to see the changes, scroll to the very bottom of the page and on the bottom left hand corner, you will see a drop-down menu. You can switch between New Gotham and High Tech.

I know High Tech needs a lot of work as well but until I get all the tweaks done on New Gotham, then I'll move on to High Tech. Hope you enjoy the changes! :)

Thanks everyone. Yes, there were numerous days where I spent over 17 hours in a row fixing this up. I would see what had to be changed but then go to the vbulletin help forum to search for how to do stuff since I didn't know anything about the coding. I think it's safe to say that I've learned quite a bit in this past week.

I've noticed that some of the images have been dropping out and then reappearing on their own. If you see that happening over the next couple of weeks, please don't PM me about it unless it's constant - meaning, the image is gone for the entire day. This is about the server, not me or the coding. Thanks!

As for signatures, the reason we no longer have that option is because people were uploading photos of rockstars and such that had nothing to do with BOP, and they were HUGE. People with slower internet connections were complaining and to be fair and have the site enjoyable for everyone, signatures were suspended. It also helps with our bandwidth.

Because the previous version of vBulletin is very different from this one, as you all know, I took Ted and Matt's orginal layout and modified the things necessary to make it work with version 3. So I'm not taking credit for the original layout that they created - without that layout, I would have been screwed.

What I have done, however, is modify many things that needed to be changed in order to work in this layout...

I just noticed that when you click to view attachments, they were opening in the same window and before, we had them open in a NEW window. So I checked what the help forum said and now we have our attachments opening in a new window.

If you see any bugs like this happening, please let me know. Aside from the 'search' button - I know that isn't as good as it's supposed to be. I'm working on it.

I think it's awesome! I love all the new changes! Did you know you can view threads in three different formats, now? And, if someone's on your ignore list, you can now see that they sent you something and just delete it, without even having to view the subject line, which is fantastic in case you have some jackass sending you messages with childish subject lines or something. And, you can now post pictures in the clocktower, where you couldn't, before. And I love the banner up top...though I wouldn't have minded seeing Reese included. And the new colors are awesome! I think it's way better than it ever was!

I do have one question, if anyone can tell me how to access my buddy list, that would be great. It used to just be up on the control panel. When I click buddy/ignore lists, it gives me the screen where you edit them and you see who's on 'em. I want the one where you can click on your buddies if you want to pm 'em without trying to remember how to spell their screen name, and you can see if they're online. I'm not complaining, mind you--I think the new changes are great, and I realize how much work went into 'em. I'd just like to know.

Anyone know how to find it?

Shemar template? I don't recall there ever being one. Hey, he's got his own section in Citizens of Gotham and Ian doesn't so I think it's a fair trade off that Ian gets to be in the banner and Shemar doesn't. I told you, you get him to join the forum too and I'll definately put him in the banner. :D

As for the buddy list thing, I'll try to do some research on it tonight.

Okay, I found the buddy list. You just have to click on "Quick Links" on the menu bar below the banner and presto! Instant friends. It will also put a + sign beside the member's name if they are on your list when you see them in City Surveillance.

Yet another update. I'm working on getting the Search function to work properly. It seems the index needed to be rebuilt when the upgrades happened so hopefully our server will be able to do this for us because it's a lengthly process and my browser times out. That means I can't really do it (easily anyway). But they can. Stay tuned for more updates - I'll let you know as soon as it's running smoothly.

Actually I was explaining this to Sam. The way I see it is, the center of the banner is 'first'. I started from the center and worked my way out. The only reason why Barbara isn't in the center beside Helena is because her photo is much brighter and looked better on the left side so Dinah got the other center spot. I started with the best in the middle and worked my way out.

When you look at the banner, you tend to automatically look at the center and then work your way to the ends. I put thought into this, trust me.

Ooooo, you know what else I like? If you want to add a smiley or a link or something, it used to stick it at the bottom of the post, and you'd have to cut and paste it where you wanted it to go. Now, you can put it wherever you want it to go right off the bat!

Okay, yes, I remember what it was. I did spend much time trying to solve that problem and then discovered that it only works for Internet Explorer. So I made the changes but for those of us who prefer Netscape, it won't work. :um: I don't know why but that's what they said on the help forum. Oh well! :shrug:
