Hello all,

It's a moot point right now, since the show has been cancelled. However, I have felt that they really should have used Montoya in place of Reese. Perhaps he could have been a partner and it would make the relationship and connections a bit more graceful in execution and introduction.

As it stood, he was too much of a token. The only male and minority to boot.

Perhaps I've been influenced too much by the online Gotham Girls.:p

Montoya instead of Reese? A female love interest for Helena. :)

Nonono! Because in the Batman side of the DC Universe, whenever the main hero gets a love interest, who invariably finds out the secret identity, that's the end.

In Batman comics, love is the Kiss of Death.

That above sentence sounds really odd. :P

Montoya kicks butt too much for that kind of ending. Even if she wasn't tragically killed off, she'd get amnesia and forget who she was, go insane, or some such.

Care to explain what you meant?

Well, it's mostly the writers to blame, but all of the Reese/Helena moments have been rather awkward. Plus, their connection happened very quickly. There is no real weight to it.

They picked Harley as a female villian to counter the female heroes. It would have flowed better to pick an existing female Gotham detective to step into a Commissioner Gordon type role instead of making up Reese. Also, if they were feeling they really needed a minority, Montoya fits that bill as well. She has enough substance to her to warrant her own episode of Batman: The Animated Series as well as absorption into the regular comics in much the same way Harley was.

Instead, Reese comes off as a token. He could still exist, but perhaps not in the same capacity as he is currently.

Actually, I have to agree, I didn't know Montoya existed till I heard/read Knightfall, and she does kick arse. I don't understand why they never used the Commish, either, being Barbara's father and all. It's a bit silly... If ya gonna do a series of a comic; keep the characters... But then again I believe that heavily, and no-one ever does... everything is always out of sync with the continuum. Tis silly. :os

They were going to use the Commisioner on the show, that is if the back 9 got picked up. Dina Meyer wanted Adam West to portray him.

OMG! That woudl have been SOOOOO COOL! *THE* original Batman as the Commish! FAB!

It would be funny hearing Adam West say things like, "If only Batman were here."

Ooooh, they could have given him that red fone for old times sake's :op

Can't you just picture things like "I guess the Dark Knight Detective is our last hope."

All you'd then need is that god awful statuette in the Clocktower - being the opening switch for the lift :oP

The lift? What lift?

Montoya would've added a sassy but strong side to the plot with Reese as her partner.

But Montoya was aware of Batman and Batgirl and metahumans and such. Reese is trying to prove that such things exist, so having Montoya there would be pointless.

Just because Montoya knows there are superheroes, doesn't mean Reese couldn't still be skeptical and prejudiced. Even the heroes themselves are often surprised by a new power or a villian's way of using it.

They could have even continued with the idea that Reese was the son of a Crime lord. And in Primal Scream, how much more dramatic would it have been to have *Montoya* the one in the van and later hospitalized? Thereby giving Reese a more center stage to reveal more of his backstory and interact with The Huntress on his own.

I'm not a cold person, but I didn't feel anything for Reese or his partner in that episode. If you don't make people care about a character first, then they just become the equivalent of red shirts on Star Trek. You figure something bad is going to happen to them and there's no emotion invested in them.

Oh, lift is just another word for elevator!

Psychic Oracle

Lift is to the UK like Elevator is to the USA

IMHO, there is no "detective" like Commissioner Gordon. I wish he had been a regular instead of Reese. They didn't need a love interest in their first season. Montoya would have been interesting, but still...

Ooops, bugger, sorry, forgot his is majority US LOL

Bugger isn't a usual US term either. :P
If you want to confuse people, just use UK terms and Bob's your uncle. ;)

This is why they mutilated the American edition of Harry Potter. :/

I also agree that Commisioner Gordon should have had some presence at least in BOP. If he wasn't a regular he should have called at least once in awhile!

Don't reply to two week old topics unless you have something extremely useful to say.

I think montoya should have been Reese's boss, the comissioner of police after Gordon. She would know about our superheroes but not want reese or any other cop to know it to keep our heroes safe from the law.

That way its a bat connection and get her in it.
