View Full Version : Writing the advertisers...

Someone in another post came up with a great idea about writing the advertisers that advertise during BOP and thanking them for advertising during the show.
Can we expand on this idea?
Perhaps we can write and perhaps even let them know of our sentiment to use their products? Also, let them know that we would appreciate them continuing to advertise during BOP?
Could we possibly get some of these addresses up on the campaign page?
I think this is a good idea, what are your thoughts?

P.S. I would like to tell everyone to NOT get discouraged. I have never seen such an uprising in protest to a show being cancelled as I have seen here for BOP. Some people say that this has never worked, but they are wrong. It worked for Star Trek, and besides, alot of the people who tried in the past didn't have the INTERNET to organize themselves and spread the word like WE DO!!!!

Stoyboy,
I think it's one of the greatest new ideas that anyone has come up with recently. Can we work together to start compiling a list of advertisers and their addresses?
I recorded BOP last Wednesday, I can watch it and compile a list of who advertised on it and let everyone know.
Then, it's just a matter of doing a little research to find out who would be the best to contact.
Would it be the President of Marketing? The president of the company? I would want to make sure that we get it to the most effective person.

Why dont we start with a list of the advertisers first?? Then we can locate websites and mailing addresses and such.

I agree Brent. I'll make the list of advertisers this weekend when I watch the show. I'll post it as soon as I can.
I wonder who is in charge of the campaign page? It would be nice if we could be discussing this with them as well.

I taped the 2 hour special of the pilot rerun and Lady Shiva, I'm reviewing it now, and hopefully will have a list in a bit. The problem is that the WB advertises itself a lot too on these shows.

StoyBoy,
I took note of the advertisers tonight as I watched Wednesday's ep. There are a TON of advertisers. If we really are going to do this, then we are going to have to just select a few of the biggies.
HuntressRocks
Well I know for a fact that Target has had a few commercials on during BoP. That's a major one!

Here's some biggies I saw...
7UP
Target
Nintendo
Payless Shoes (twice)
Wendy's
Victoria's Secret
Loreal Paris (twice)
Toys R Us
Jack in the Box
Compaq/Hewlett Packard
Sprint PCS
Dodge
McDonalds
So, as you can see, there are quite a few. We'll need to parse this list down a little more I think, and then encourage people to send postcards.
What does everyone think?
Let's do it!! we just have to find the e-mails and go posting here...as we post, we send e-mails...what u think?? :D
..oh i didn't read the postcard thing...sorry! :p

As far as breaking it down, we have to be careful. After all, what's the point of writing to McDonalds, they could stop advertising and still bring in a profit. Some of these companies are too big to care about which particular show they air on. Maybe some smaller ones that put more care and concern into their advertising dollars.
Another good point would be that if anyone uses these products, especially include that in their letters if they write. It's one thing to thank for advertising, its an even better thing to thank for the advertising AND have the company hearing that the product is being consumed with positive feedback.
God I sound like I should be a business major or something. lol

No need for me to tell you how much of a longshot this advertiser attack is.

Longshots can pay off big sometimes. Thank you for the addresses Chris. That's a real big help.
Writing the advertisers is a great idea but with the media attention just around the corner, the best thing we could do is promote the show and find everyone we can to send comics.... the more comics, the better the media story and attention... If we are successful, the advertisers will take notice.

My coworkers are still teasing me for getting them to fill out postcards about BoP on a previous campaign.... just wait until I get them to mail out the comics!
Some of them do watch the show and like it but they are lazy to write.... so I make it easy for them: here's a pen, here's an envelope, here's what you write :) And in trade, I cover their shift for the few minutes it takes for them to do so.
Aside from that, I promote the show online to different forums and websites and give them the campaign link. And I've brought flyers to my local comic shop that say "Keep The Birds Flying: Send a Comic, Save The Birds Of Prey".
They loved the sign because it might help them with sales. And we reach more viewers.
tbey has an excellent point... the more comics they receive, the higher the impact of our statement. The higher the impact, the more the media will be interested. And when the media catches on, advertisers will pay attention.
