View Full Version : My City of Heroes BoP Homage

Okay, I have been playing City of Heroes/City of Villains MMORPG a lot lately, but I have not forgotten my BoP roots. I made an homage to one of the Birds as one of my main characters... I had to change the name (secret ID name as well) and backstory (kind of a mix of Helena from BoP and Max from Dark Angel [another Ashley Scott vehicle], with my own little twist), but the look is almost exact to one of the more famous Ashley Scott Huntress pics. I now present to you...

Vigilant Huntress (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v605/BNetPheonyx/City%20of%20Heroes/VigilantHuntress_Crossarms.jpg)

In City of Heroes game terms, she's classified as a Scrapper archetype with the Martial Arts Primary Power Set and the Super Reflexes Secondary Power Set. To better represent the jumping to rooftops/fire escapes, she uses the Super Jump travel power pool power.

Oh, and the player-run internet radio station that focuses on the server that most of my characters are on (including Vigilant Huntress, or VH for short) has Aimee Allen's "Revolution" in their DJs' libraries just waiting to be requested, thanks to me (one of the DJs is a HUGE BoP fan to boot) :D

Thanks... I had to wait for the 3-Month veteran reward to unlock the trenchcoat costume piece (you can now gain extra costume pieces, permanent use of temp powers and even little "pets" that you can control and have help you fight in 3 month increments of your account being active).

If I tried to make modified versions of Dinah and Barbara it'll be a lot tougher, since many of their abilities cannot be fully covered (they do have a Canary Cry-esque power set, but other than three attacks, the other six powers in the set are used to help, or "buff" teammates) or similar power sets are spread between archetypes. Barbara, even as Batgirl, is almost completely impossible to build (she'd be considered an Martial Arts/Devices Scrapper, but Devices are not a selectable power set for Scrappers [the in close melee experts], and there is no swingline travel power; only Super Speed, Super Jump, Flight and Teleportation). :fume:

Out of the three Birds, Helena was (and is) the easiest one to build of all the Birds. Although there is someone who has a character on the same server who is called The Valet and looks very similar to Alfred :scared:

Maybe I will be able to make Babs and Dinah easier when Marvel Universe Online (from the same people who make City of Heroes/Villains) comes out in 2008 or 2009, since hopefully powers will be widely selectable and not broken into archetypes that spread power sets around... that and they have to add some swingline travel power to pull off Spidey.

Enjoy!

Pheonyx

PS: If you read any of my stories, I made up Alexis Fairchild; a Martial Arts/Regeneration Scrapper with Super Jump so easily portrays a Metabolic Physical Adept Psion :D

Phoenix, glad you brought this up. I have a question or two about the game itself.

I have City of Heroes, but never played it.

How much money a month is it to play?

If you have either City of Heroes or City of Villains by itself, it is $15/month (if you don't want to use a credit card, you can buy 2 month time cards with a code you add to your account at your local PC game shop, like EB Games or GameStop; that's what I do)... however, when City of Villains came out, it added superbases and you can only access bases if you have City of Villains (or CoV for short).

If you have both City of Heroes and City of Villains, you still only pay $15/month... that's right! One fee for two games. Also, if you have both games active, you can actually make 12 characters per server (where with only one game, it is only 8 character slots)

Wal-Mart (aka "The Evil Empire") has a "Good vs. Evil Edition", which is a DVD that has both City of Heroes and City of Villains (updated up to Issue 7... they have since added Issue 8 to the game and Issue 9 is being tested now) for $30, gives you special edition only costume pieces, a free month of game time, two free permanent powers [a teleport power to Pocket D, a neutral non-combat "nightclub" area that heroes and villains can get together; and a short term jump pack power; good for use in the early levels until you run certain missions that give you better temporary travel powers that will hold you until you can access travel powers for your character] and a special ingame "badge" (you can collect badges that can help unlock special abilities or new powers unavailable normally in the game) which you can display just under your character's name. If you already have both games, you can purchase the extra in-game stuff on NC Soft's online store for only $10.

If you need City of Villains, send me a PM here and I can send you a free 2-week trial code and a link to download the CoV client software (since it shares a lot of information with City of Heroes, and you already have City of Heroes in your system, make sure that you install into your City of Heroes directory (it's OK... it suggests that you do that anyway when you go to install City of Villains). Then once you buy the software (which the base CoV is now like $20 and gives you a free month of game time), all you have to do is add (not upgrade) the game to the account that has the trial and you will not need to actually install the software... think of spending that $20 as paying for a month and paying $5 for a disc if you need to reinstall in the future. Also, if you use a retail code for CoV, you also get that free time in CoH because of the "both games for $15/month" situation.

Special game timecard hint: If you can find timecards for their other games that use timecards (Lineage II or Auto Assault) very cheap (one place once had AA timecards on sale for $10), GET THEM! Those are generic interchangeable timecard codes that can be used by any of NC Soft's games, CoH and CoV included.

If you ever want to look me up once you get in-game, my global name is @Pheonyx and I mainly play on the server named Virtue (which is probably the main server for the roleplayers in the game, myself included), so feel free to send me a "tell" (private message) to my global name. If you don't know how to do that, I will show you now. In your little chat bar (usually in the bottom left corner of your screen), type the following (except what I put in quotation marks):

/t @Pheonyx, "Type your message here, probably about who you are here on BoPO"

Just make sure that you put the comma immediately after the name of the person you are sending the private message to (no space between the name and the comma; that's a common mistake people make). The @ symbol lets you know that you are sending it to a global name of the player, not just the character they happen to be on, so you can actually talk to them while your character and their character are on different servers.

Be warned: if you haven't played in a while or you do the trial code/CoV client download route, you will have a huge amount extra to download to get the game up to date before you can play.

Hope to see you ingame.

Pheonyx

i don't play CoH but a friend of mine is a huge fan of this game and I watched her play it for awhile. I could definately get seriously hooked on this game. Nice Homeage to BoP though! I think the char is kick ass.

Great to see BoP being kept alive in some many unique ways! :thumb:

A quick couple of notes:

The "Good vs. Evil" Edition of City of Heroes/City of Villains is now being sold at Best Buy now, so you don't have to deal with Wal-Mart if you don't want to.

Also, the supergroup my heroes belong to, The Kaotix (http://kaotix.daemons.ca), has moved into the top 100 supergroups on the Virtue server. If you ever join in on the game and play on the Virtue server, get a hold of me ingame and I will fast track you into The Kaotix; we're a fun group that enjoys all types of players (casual, player vs player, roleplay, etc.), and is as friendly as everyone here at BoPO.
