View Full Version : BOP is like Buffy

I dislike the WB strongly now because they are such hypocryites. Buffy started off really typical and only 12 moderatley sucessful episodes aired. If the WB had't given it a second chance Buffy wouldn't have made a big of an impact. The second season of Buffy was REALLY famous and the WB had another 3 seasons of major income so much that they (ignorantly) let Buffy go in season 5 (even now it makes big profit). If they gave a potential show like BOP a chance the WB could gain plenty more money and success. Also, Batman is an over 60 year legacey! The WB has won emmys and has been a common knowledge all over the earth. If Warner Bros bails out they are TRULY spineless and certainly not considerate of the hard work and effort actors and directors put into BOP.

Let's just hope Birds of Prey doesn't go on UPN.

Better UPN than nowhere at all --- even if it buys us just a little more time, I think.

Have to go with Lance on this one. Better UPN then no one. Even Granted my semi UPN station gives me a nice pink, red and purple picture but I'd rather see BoP like that then gone!

And with UPN you never know. Next season of Buffy still seems likes its in the air.

I guess another half a season is better than nothing at all.

I haven't given up. I'd like to think that if BoP landed on UPN, it might get more than another half-season ... or we'd have more time to find a permanent home for it NEXT season.

Lance is right in many ways. It's better then nothing. Take it or leave people that's all I have to say. We have beside UPN, Superstation, TNT, Sci-fi and FX. We just need to remain positive in this. Keep the faith, yano.

If it did this bad on the WB, it will do even worse on UPN, just because it's UPN.

Not that I'm foreseeing a move to UPN, but if it did move stations, you'd get more Gabby, Frostbite. ;)

That's always good. :)

cha....no offense but this isn't time to assume it's getting cancelled, the only reason BTVS left WB was becasue of ignorence and UPN won't always be there to pick up the leftovers. Sure UPN is good and Half a season is ok but have we lost faith completely? The WB has owned Batman since....before you were born (or I was born) and if it bails out on the epic adventure that has so well given them fame then they are such hipocrytes. I'm not talking about what might happen I'm talking about what HAPPENED already. The WB used to take in shows of all sorts and made them into worthy hours of drama and just the thought that the WB is on stressing on 7 episodes is horribly pathetic. So many shows like Cheers, The Practice, X-files, and (of course) Buffy have had a pretty shakey start but they're in history. The WB is just being impatient and selfish currently and to win my respect would have to start with the WB actually attemping to save their own shows and part of their legacey. I'm not saying "Oh that'd be like....ok if we moved it around a little like Roswell".

The WB does not own Batman. It's just the same company that owns the WB (Time Warner) owns DC Comics, which in turn owns Batman. You had that wrong on so many levels.

Well the WB does stand for Warner Bros which owned all the movies and animated shows. Of course DC comics owns Batman but Warner Bros has been a major part of Batman for a long time.

WB does stand for Warner Brothers, but "the WB" is the television network.

PoisonIvy2 wrote, "No offense but this isn't time to assume it's getting cancelled", and is absolutely correct. No offense was taken here. The faithful should not be distracted by a couple of 'what-ifs'. The show is not dead, it still has life in it, and those of us who believe in it should keep it in that context when we write or read less-than-positive stuff on these boards.

So should we send UPN some comics and letters as well? I really love this campaign just to let you know! ;)

Just in case the rumor about UPN eying BoP because Buffy's up in the air still
(See http://www.sf-fandom.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32989 ) . And if its not true then at least make a little noise to get them interested!
I'm still taking this with a grain of salt but still.

Frostbite, I guess it was out of place when I said Batman has been part of Warner Bros for that long and I apologize for that. Still, Warner Bros has been a big part of the promotion of Batman in the past 13 years. So I just thought maybe they should realize that BOP is still important and deserves their trust because we all have seen shows start off somewhat uneven.

Lance, yuppers that's what I'm trying to grasp. I just don't want you guys to think that it's over because there still are things you can do to help BOP stay on UPN

Sorry if I seemed somewhat harsh but I just felt (feel) like BOP is a perfectly fine show that has more than potential then the WB thinks.
Let's take a look at some faults in the start of BOP

:( - Ratings were actually quite good in the begining but dropped suddenly.

 - In the US, "The West Wing" aires at the exact same time! Perhaps several of the viewers were bored with "The West Wing" and decided to to see BOP (Twas a stupid idea to schedule BOP like that)

:( - The WB claimed that ratings were still an issue

 - The WB lacked promotion for BOP, I actually had only seen 2 commercials the whole summer and fall beginning

:( - The plots were supposedly not subsquent to the story

 - This was decided within 6 episodes, most shows go to the main issue near the end of the season also this is the first season which is sort of an introduction to the series.

The Batman/WB issue aside, I agree with everything you wrote about the show, PoisonIvy2. BoP had many things going against it from the beginning --- it's our job now to find a way to make it right. I like the show, and I'm so far outside the target demographic the WB couldn't find me with a telescope. I want the show to survive, with the appropriate changes to make it more viewer friendly.
I believe --- and freely admit that I could be wrong --- that the show was flawed because it was allowed to go in no particular direction: the writers changed a lot when they borrowed it from the comics, yet attempted to suck up to comics fans with obscure references to other characters in the DC stable. At the same time, those references left the much larger, uninitiated audience confused and, ultimately, alienated. The result, then, pleased no one.
Those of us who saw the potential from the beginning want to see the problems fixed so the show has a chance to succeed as it was supposed to be in the first place.
