Do you think they will come out with this in Blu-Ray?

Not happening. Warners half assed this release so I highly doubt we'll see Birds in Blu Ray.

What do you mean half-assed it? It was great!

1. The "extras" were a joke. Seriously. Oh yeah that's right, there were no extras. They just tacked on Gotham Girls.
2. The videos (save for the Unaired Pilot) were not in anamorphic widescreen. That is just sheer laziness. Converting would not have cost that much money, nor take that much time.
3. No TV advertisements whatsoever.
4. This is a 50/50 issue. Okay, I can understand music licensing is expensive, I really can.
Anyone here knows the songs we really really wanted were the theme song, the finale song, and maybe the Michelle Branch song at the end of the pilot.
A lot of the brief songs were easy to replace, but those songs were really key.
Then what happens?
Warners wouldn't even pony up for the theme song. Baywatch, Married with Children (from season 3 dvds onward), and now Birds of Prey don't even have their own theme song on their DVDs.
That's sad.
(They did get the Branch song in, so that's nice.)
But can you really say it wasn't a rush job?
We have a DVD with only the episodes. That's the most basic bare bones release we could have.
Am I ungrateful?
Absolutely not. Having Birds of Prey on DVD is what we wanted, and that's exactly what we were given.
As I've said before, the only reason BOP was released on DVD was to cash in when someone realized TDK was gonna be HUGE and anything Bat-related would sell well.
Even on the ad sent out to retailers for Birds of Prey touted how it would be released "days before The Dark Knight."

Well the music rights were beyond their control. It was the only way for us to get it on DVD.
And what other extra features could we have gotten? I'm sure if they had exclusive interviews, they would have added it. But the actors have moved on, and probably didn't have time for an interview even if they wanted to give one. They gave all that they could. And i thought what we got was great!!
And who cares about the format? I have seen it, and i didn't analyze it enough to even notice that the format for the unaired pilot was different.
And lets not forget the artwork on the box. It looks like they did put effort into it.
Belive me, i'm sure they put some effort into it. Because people don't pay for a half ass job.

^Actually, there were some promo interviews with the actresses that aired right around the pilot, describing the show and such. Great little tidbits, and I"ve yet to see any high quality copies of them online. I had hoped those would make it.
The music is a sore spot, but it was expected an inevitable.
Really, I'm just glad we got the DVD in the first place. Extras are just that....extra. Plus, it's nice to finally see all hell break loose in New Gotham in high quality.

^ Yeah what you said. Let's just be greatful for what we have, and not to complain for what we don't have, or what we wanted and didn't get.

I'm not entirely sure you read my ENTIRE posting. I'm not complaining at all.
YOU asked ME why it was a half assed job. I gave you EXACTLY what you asked for.
As a side note, anyone with a full screen tv won't notice the DVD formatting issue, but will on a widescreen one. (Did you notice widescreen is the only type being sold in your Big Box Retailers?)
Once again, I was not complaining, just pointing out the facts.
The box art is something I'll semi-disagree on. The front cover art was done literally years ago (it's the poster), and the back really wouldn't take THAT long to whip up.
The hardest part was probably the summary of the show on the back of the case.
What gets on my nerves are people who aren't fully reading/understanding my posts, and automatically assume I'm trashing the DVDs. I'm not. I love having Birds of Prey on DVD.

^ I think we got it with the bold letters, Derek. lol.
I did notice the formatting issue too, but I'm just kind of pointedly ignoring it. Just like the new theme song.

Come to think of Dark, didn't you say something about poisoned darts/needles coming out if the finale song was changed?

I read your full post.
If you think that they did a sucky job, what could they have possibly done to make it better?
It has been years since the show has aired, so what was on the box art was probably all that they could put on there.
Sometimes they can only do certain things. And when you have to give special features for a show that has been off the air for many years, it kinda makes it harder.

1. Put on some extras. True that maybe they couldn't put together new interviews, but there were plenty of old archival ones that could have been on there.
A photo gallery maybe? There are tons of Birds of Prey photos they could have had on the disc.
Commentary on an episode or two?
Perhaps some of the commercials on the DVD? (the ones without licensed music)
The list goes on and on for extras that could have been put on the DVD.
2. Make all the episodes in anamorphic widescreen. (There's several reviews which mention this is a bs thing.)
3. Maybe have aired even one ad on tv? Just think of the BOP fans who still have no idea they can own the birds on dvd.
4. I think most of us would agree that the poster art was pretty much mandatory for being the cover...however TPTB could have done anything they wanted.
For example, the cover from one of the discs could have been used, or anything the graphic designer could have whipped up using promotional pics.
Don't think because the show hasn't aired in a while that it's a proper excuse, because there's alway archival material available.
You think when the show was canned TPTB immediately destroyed everything related to the show?
Nope. If it wasn't destroyed/stolen/etc, then it was placed in storage/archive for a day it would be needed again.
Somewhere sits that Batgirl outfit, the Birdarangs, and even Harley Quinn's outfit.
Having a DVD is great, but all they did was throw the episodes on the disc, which is the definition of a barebones release.
For example, our Birds of Prey DVD is like the original DVD releases of the Batman movies.
Just the movie/show, nothing else.

There may have been a few torture needles thrown. Possibly several. But I plead the fifth.

Let me shead a Gold-Ray light on the subject !
A Blu-Ray version may still come out a little later; that happens all the time. That is usually the way these things work for more specialized releases. That is all just because DVDs are common place & Blu-Ray is more up & coming. If Blu-Ray was more popular & it was like 5 years in the future then it would have been released on that instead. Not enough people upgraded to high definition yet & it was unclear if fans of Birds of Prey were just a somewhat close knit group or if there was many more & thus a higher demand. To compensate for the demand risk they only released it on the most common place platform (DVD rather than Blu-Ray). If they released a Blu-Ray version at the expense of a common version they would have lost money. The fact is production itself is the hard part so the worst is over. IT IS ON DVD FOREVER !!! BIRDS OF PREY FOREVER !!!! The Blu-Ray door will never be closed now & forever !!!

I think it has a good chance of being released on Blu-ray. The best time for it may be when the original Batman series makes it on Blu-ray or maybe a future Batman movie is released. I hope they do a better job. It has to be anamorphic for Blu-ray and I pray the original theme song is included.

Skinny, you must not have a whole lot of DVD's. I'm going to add to a little of what Derek said.
Let's use the Batman Forever (1995) DVD from the Batman Anthology set. As Derek stated, the original Batman DVD releases were bare-bone releases. This basically means the DVD includes the film, scene selection, languages, and maybe like filmographies of the actors or some boring little paragraph or two about the actors.
Then years later, they release Batman: The Motion Picture Anthology. This set includes all four movies...each one in 2-Disc editions. (total 8 DVD's n the set.)
Let me list some things included on the Batman Forever 2-Disc DVD.
-Commentary by Joel Schumacher
-8 Deleted Scenes
-Riddle Me This: Why is Batman Forever (A 30 minute 1995 TV special hosted by Chris O'Donnell about Forever)
-The whole set includes a 6 Part documentary special called 'Shadows of the Bat: The Cinematic Saga of the Dark Knight'. Each part is about 30 minutes long. Part 5 is on the Batman Forever DVD.
-Beyond Batman Documentary Gallery. This includes:
-Out of the Shadows: The Production Design of Batman Forever
-The Many Faces of Gotham City
-Knight Moves: The Stunts of Batman Forever
-Imaging Forever: The Visual Effects of Batman Forever
-Scoring Forever: The Music of Batman Forever
-Kiss from A Rose music video by Seal (You can tell I like this song.)
-The Heroes and the Villians Profile Galleries. (This was a series of shorts about each character from the film. Usually featuring interviews.)
-Theatrical Trailer
All of that is JUST on the Batman Forever 2-Disc DVD.
Keep in mind the film was released in 1995 and the DVD set was 2005. Alot of the interviews from the Anthology were new ones from 2005. I specifically remember newer interviews from Val Kilmer, Nicole Kidman, Chris O'Donnell, Jack Nicholson, Joel Schumacher, Tim Burton, Michael Gough (He was like 90 too), and probably a few more.
You can not possibly tell me they couldn't have included some of the trailers, or a photo gallery, or some interviews. I KNOW they made interviews - Cause I've seen short 15 and 30 second clips of them. 'Birds' was also a pretty stunt heavy show - what about a stunt special? Maybe a little behind the scenes montage hosted by one of the cast members. It's not like Rachel Skarsten is super busy or anything. Maybe Aimee Allen's Revolution music video? Even a little batcomputer DVD rom?

Skinny, like Dark said, there ARE interviews, I've seen short clips of them. Again, just not high quality.
The actresses/actors have moved on - but lets face it, I think they all could have set aside some time for some extra cash and some interviews. It's not like they're all that busy. I'd say Shemar Moore and Ian Abercrombie are the only ones who may not be able to find time. Moore is busy with Criminal Minds (which is a great show by the way) and Ian is busy with Star Wars.
Also, I'm not complaining. Just saying this was MAJORLY half-assed and could have been done better. I do understand the music issues and am glad we got the set.
