Oracle/Batgirl

Two years later.

Barbara climbs out of bed half asleep. She stumbles to the bathroom to splash some cold water on her face to wake herself up. She hates getting up to go to school. With her photographic memory. School wasn't a challenge. Most days she would be daydreaming about Batman. He fascinates her. She loves seeing her boyfriend Dick Grayson,though she felt they were starting to grow apart. He was always making excuses why he couldn't hang out anymore. When she would call him. Alfred would tell her that Dick was busy doing something else. Barbara thought Dick was seeing another girl and that he was just leading her on and playing with her emotions. She walks back into her room and picks out a pair of demin pants and a nice blouse. Barbara finished it off with Dick's letter jacket. She grabs her bookbag and gym bag. Barbara walks downstairs and puts her bags down on the couch. She walks into the kitchen to have breakfast. "Morning Auntie."

Barbara Aunt's turns and looks at Barbara. "Well someone seems in a chipper mood this morning. What's the occasion? You are never in a good mood when you get up in the morning."

Barbara looks up from her bowl of cereal. "I'm going to Dick's house after school to work out in the gym. Bruce said I could stop by anytime and use the equipment. I figure this way I can get my mind off of Dick always standing me up on dates." Barbara hears the school bus blowing it's horn. "See you later Auntie." Barbara grabs her bags and dashes out the front door. The first few periods was wizzed by. Fourth period was studyhall. Barbara made her way to a open table and pulls out the scrapbook she had made to put the news clippings and pictures of Batman and Robin.

She heard a female voice behind her. "If you want to catch that bird. You're going to need a bigger net and cage."

Barbara looks over her shoulder. She saw her best friend Stacey standing there. "Oh haha Stacey. You should be a comic. Some girls drool over hunky movie stars and musicians. Me I prefer the stong silence type that looks good in spandex." Stacey rolled her eyes and sets down next to Barbara. The two of them see Dick walking in.

Stacey pokes Barbara. "Here comes your boyfriend. You better put your scrapbook away. He might get jealous that you have the hots for another guy." Stacey chuckles as Barbara lightly hits her on the arm.

Barbara looks up at Dick. "Man you look terrible. What happened to you? Did your new girlfriend do that to you?" Barbara stormed away before Dick could answer."

Dick looks at Stacey. "What was that all about?"

Stacey looks at Dick. "Don't play dumb with me. You aren't very good at it. You know very well what she meant. You are always breaking dates with her,you come up with flimsy excuses why you have too. If you are going to date another girl. You should have the common courtesy to break up with Barbara first."

Dick walks off to find another seat. He felt bad that Barbara thought he was dating another girl. Which wasn''t true at all. The reason he had been breaking all those dates is because of his crimefighting career as Robin. "Is being Robin worth loosing the one girl who means the world to me?" He reaches into his pants pocket and pulls out a small box. "Guess now isn't the best time to give her my class ring." He puts it back into his pocket and opens his book.

Barbara sets across the room staring at Dick. As much as she wanted to hate him and his standing her up all the time. She just couldn't do it. "If I was dating Robin. I bet he wouldn't stand me up,but who is he?" Barbara looks around the library for likely people. "He's cute,very athletic,handsome. Let's see there is the captain of the football team. No he's too conseated about himself. Dick Grayson,No he isn't the superhero type. Dang none of the guys in here are the right type of person to be Robin."

The bell rings and Studyhall is over. Barbara grabs her book and walks out of the library. She felt a hand on her shoulder. Barbara looks to see who it is.

Standing there is Dick. "Can we go somewhere and talk about this?"

Next class Barbara had was Gym,but she didn't feel like doing anything today. "Ok,but you have alot of explaining to do." Dick nods and follows her back into the library. They find a table in a out of the way place in the library. "Ok go for it. I'm listening."

Dick sets down across from Barbara. "First off I'm sorry about standing you up so much,but something new in my life that is taking up most of my freetime and before you say it. It isn't another girl. You are the one and only for me. I knew it from the first time we meet when you came with your uncle to Bruce's house. I've been in love with you since. You have a carefree attitude about you. Not everygirl would have climbed up on the trapeze platform the first time and trusted me enough not to drop them. There is something I want to tell you,but I can't. Just believe that it isn't another female coming between us and that I love you alot." Dick bends down and kisses Barbara. He dashes out of the library and to class before he was late." Barbara grabs her bookbag and walks to the gym. The gym coach walks over to her and asked why she wasn't playing too. Barbara told her she didn't feel like playing today. The coach knew something had to be up if Barbara didn't feel like playing,but she dropped it and went back to the basketball game. After school Barbara goes by her locker and finds a note stuck inside. The note said. See you tonight hopefully. I will have you a surprise. Love always Dick." Barbara smiled and grabbed her gymbag out of the locker. She closes the door and walks to the bus stop. Barbara takes the bus to the gates of Wayne Manor. She opens the gate and walks in. Barbara goes up to the front door and rings the doorbell.

Alfred opens the door. "Miss Barbara. What an unexpected surprise. Dick isn't here right now."

Barbara looks at Alfred. "That doesn't surprise me,but I'm not here to see Dick. I'm here to use the gym equipment. I thought maybe it would help me take my mind of Dick." Barbara goes into the house and walks to the gym. She goes into the dressing room and changes out of her regular clothes. Barbara puts on a black leotard and a pair of soft sole shoes. She walks out into the main room and does her warmup exercises. After that she goes over to the uneven bars and works out on them. The whole time she kept looking at the trapeze hanging from the ceiling. "Should I or shouldn't I? Oh what the heck. Dick will never know." Barbara climbs up the rope and stands on the platfrom. Hanging up on hook up there was the safety belt she always uses when she is with Dick. "Safety first." Barbara puts the belt on and then grabs the trapeze bar. She swings out and does a complete sommersault. As she goes to grab the bar. She misses and starts to fall. The safety harness catches and stops her fall. Barbara looks down. She is stuck upside down 10 feet in the air. Too far down to grab the bar and pull herself up and too far away from the rope to let herself down. "This is another fine mess I've gotten myself into." Suddenly she feels the rope she is attached to come up. She looks up and sees Dick looking down at her. "Crap I'm in for it now." Dick puts his hand out and Barbara grabs it. He pulls her up. Barbara looks at Dick. "Thanks for the hand."

Dick looks at her. "What was you doing on the trapeze by yourself? If I hadn't been here. You would have blacked out from all the blood running to your head. A few minutes after that and you wouldn't have been living anymore.

Barbara looks down at the floor while Dick fusses at her. "I know what I did was dangerous,but I love to fly with you and since you are never around anymore. I decided to do it myself."

Dick looks at Barbara. "Well if you decide to try that alone again. Just remember. There is a safety hook that the rope goes though. If you find yourself upside down again. grab the hook and slowly let yourself down. You will still be upside down,but at least you won't blackout from the blood runing to your head."

Barbara looks at Dick. "Again? Are you crazy? I'm never going to try that alone again. What about that surprise you said you had for me?"

Dick looks at Barbara confused. "What surprise? I don't know what you are talking about."

Barbara looks at Dick. "The note you left me in my locker at school. It said you would see me tonight and you had a surprise for me." Barbara slides down the rope to the floor. Dick follows close behind her. She goes into the dressingroom and gets the note from her backpack. "This note." Barbara hands it to Dick.

Dick takes the note and reads it. "I didn't write this. It's not even my handwritting. But what surprise did you have for me?" Dick takes out the note in his pocket and hands it to Barbara. The notes said basiclly the same thing.

Barbara takes both notes and look at them. The writing on them was the same. The same upward stroke on the letters. It dawns on her whose handwritting it was. "I've figured out who our mystery writer is. It's my best friend Stacey's writing. She must have written the notes to get us together." Barbara notices the clock on the wall. "I guess I better be going. My aunt is probably wondering where the heck I'm at." Barbara grabs her bags and walks out of the gym.

Dick stops her. "Wait up. I want to give you something." He hands her a small box and a single red rose. "Don't open the box until you get home." Barbara nods and walks out of the house. She walks to the bus stop. As she nears the stop. She sees the bus pulling away. Barbara tried to run and catch it,but she wasn't fast enough. The bus disappeared into the darkness. "Well I guess I'll have to walk home or find a phonebooth to call home." She walks down the street looking for a phonebooth. Barbara noticed some lowlife scum following her. They cornered her and forced her down into a dark alley.

Oracle/Batgirl

Couple of them pulled knifes and pointed them at Barbara. "Give us all your money or we will make you less pretty."

Barbara was terrified. She studdered. "I dddd on't have any mmmmoneyyyy."

One of the lowlife scum. "Well in that case. We'll take our payment another way. Barbara backed up behind some crates and closed her eyes and they got closer.
Suddenly she hears a voice above her. "Didn't anyone tell you. It's not nice to frighten females?"

Barbara heard a fight going on,but she didn't open her eyes. She felt a hand touch her. She screamed and took her fingernails. She scratch the person that touched her. Barbara opens her eyes and sees two people looking down at her. She was still scared. Barbara notices one of them is wearing a red shirt. The other one looked scarier. As she stands up she sees her uncle standing in the alleyway talking to some cops. Barbara runs up and gives him a big hug. "You don't know how glad I am to see you." He hugs her back. She hears footsteps walking towards her. Barbara turns and looks at the two of them.

Batman looks at Commissioner Gordon. "Take your niece home Jim. She will be fine in a couple of hours. she is just scared out of her mind. She was lucky tonight. If we hadn't been on patrol near here. The outcome would have probably been different." Batman didn't tell them. That Robin had been following Barbara from the sky after he saw she missed the last bus home."
